## DREI Two weeks later, Sam sets off on his bicycle right after lunch. His homework can wait, he doesn't take it so seriously anymore these days, and he has nothing planned for the evening anyway. He wants to go to the Watt to see the megaliths, which are visible at low tide. They are glacial erratics, four thousand years old, as he learned during his vacation two years ago. Now he wants to go again, hoping he can find them and also pass Enna's house which is a short distance away, just to see where she lives. He still sits next to her in class. They hardly talk to one another, but ever since the incident at the class representative election, it feels different. They share an unspoken understanding, a warm and exciting feeling that grows stronger within Sam day by day. Sometimes he catches himself hoping his knee could secretly build a bridge to her under the table. His eyes are drawn to her - his third eye - all the time: the nape of Enna's neck; a blonde down on the little whorls that show when she leans over her notebooks; her small hand, which is pretty strong for a girl. Sam likes Enna. Very much. He doesn’t know much about her, but what he sees strikes him as incredibly strong and confident. She is alone like him, but she doesn’t seem to care. Sam avoids the rest of the class, especially Nadine, who is still obviously upset. Some of the kids try to get closer to him, but he doesn’t want to, not least because of Enna. The schoolyard gossip mill is turning: it's rumored that her mother is involved with magic, even witchcraft. Sam doesn't buy such nonsense for a second, but he is curious to find out what’s really going on. The beginning of September is already quite chilly, especially in the mornings. The sky above Sam is clear blue again, the light is so bright it’s almost blinding. As far as the eye can see, there are fields, meadows, and pastures that stretch endlessly across the flat landscape. Puffy white clouds tower on the horizon. Sam cycles below the dike, where he’s sheltered from the wind and it’s a little easier to ride. Fat sheep graze peacefully on the hillside. Covered in thick white wool, they too look like little puffy clouds. Sam doesn’t bother them. Their muzzles are deep in grass and he can hear them munching. It goes on and on, in a continuous chorus. Otherwise it's pleasantly silent. He’s escaping from the silence back at home. Enna’s village comes into view. It’s tiny and completely surrounded by pastureland. But at the junction that leads into it, Sam cycles past. First he wants to find the megalith. As far as he remembers, it’s nearby. After a few hundred meters, he stops, dismounts, and lets his bicycle fall to the ground. He doesn’t even bother to lock it. He climbs the dike right away and – as soon as he reaches the top – he sees them. Not the megaliths, but Enna! She stands in the Watt, her legs slightly spread, her feet sunk into the mud up to her ankles. Her long blonde hair hangs loose down her back. Even without her braid, Sam recognizes her instantly.
