The project will provide financial support to investments in various agricultural sectors, including: - **Cereals:** maize, beans, and Irish potatoes. - **Vegetables and Fruits:** The program focuses on increasing production and postharvest processes. - **Protected Agriculture:** The goal is to improve the quality and quantity of these crops, as well as to maximize the use of resources and promote sustainable practices. ### Areas of Support SAIP II will prioritize financial support to individuals and organizations located in: - Kamonyi - Huye - Ruhango - Muhanga - Gisagara - Nyamagabe - Bugesera - Rusizi - Nyagatare - Kirehe - Ngororero. However, the program will also continue to support those individuals and organizations in the following districts: - Rwamagana - Kayonza - Gatsibo - Ngoma - Nyanza - Rulindo - Karongi - Rutsiro - Nyabihu. ### Key Project Objectives for Organizations To assist with the continued development of initiatives already supported by SAIP I. ### Key Project Objectives - The project emphasizes occupational health and safety (OHS) and environmental, health, and safety (EHS). - The project will focus on supporting greenhouse, screenhouses, and shade net technology. - Support mechanical solutions for agriculture, including tractor and power tillers. - Investments will also be awarded for value addition activities like processing plants, warehouses, cold rooms, cold trucks, silos, and certification. ### Application Requirements: - **Primary production:** - Must have experience farming for at least one growing season. - Must have expertise in seed production. - Must be a registered group, cooperative, or individual. - Must be able to provide evidence of ownership for land used for farming purposes. - **Protected agriculture:** - Applicants must have existing land for protected agriculture. - They must follow all environmental guidelines. - The group must be registered and compliant with all applicable regulations. - The application must demonstrate a clear business model with profit potential. - Applicants must be willing to participate in long-term equipment financing solutions, contributing 50% of the cost. - **Mechanization:** - Applicants must have a documented track record of farming activities. - The application must show the ability to farm at least 300 hectares annually or more. - Must be a registered group, cooperative, or individual. - Applicants must demonstrate a business plan outlining the profitability of the business. - The application must include an evaluation of the long-term capital investment required for the project. - The application must include documentation proving a strong working relationship with a financial institution or an institution in good standing. - **Post-harvest operations:** - Applicants must have a registered group, cooperative or organization operating in this sector. - Must have a defined plot of agricultural land to use for a post-harvest facility. - Must demonstrate a clear business plan with profit potential. - Applicants must be willing to commit to long-term equipment financing, contributing 50% of the cost. ### Additional Application Information: Applicants must ensure: - The project will include a detailed business plan. - Proposals with the highest return on investment will be prioritized. - The maximum budget for a primary production project is $200,000 USD. - The maximum budget for a protected agriculture project is $550,000 USD. - The maximum budget for post-harvest processing related to cereals is $850,000 USD. - The maximum budget for post-harvest processing related to potatoes is $550,000 USD. - The maximum budget for post-harvest processing related to horticulture is $650,000 USD. - The maximum budget for a tractor purchase is $600,000. - The maximum budget for a power tiller purchase is $200,000. - The maximum budget for certification projects is $250,000 USD. - The project must be located in a suitable infrastructure-enabled location. - Preference will be given to projects that can demonstrate a 70% contribution toward the overall project cost. - SAIP II investment will be used for 30% funding. - Applicants can find all supporting documentation on the RAB website (www.rab.gov.rw). - The project must be located in a region where it will be able to receive support from other public agencies. - There are limited financial grants available.
