Heffernan Feb 2021 Objectives Demonstrate a systematic approach to reading a CXR Interpret common CXR Life-threatening conditions Common acute conditions ABCDEGHI method ALWAYS start Name/DOB/Film Start with obvious then go systematic Assessment/Airway Bones Cardiac Diaphragm Effusion Fissures Great vessel and Gastric bubble Hila mediastinum Impression Assessment/Airway THINK ‘RIPE’ Rotation Clavicle and margin of vertebra should be equal Check trachea: is it central, Carina Look for indwelling devices Inspiration Should see anterior 5-7 ribs. Hyper-inflated if 8+ Projection PA (Posterior to anterior (Normal if not stated) or AP Exposure Good detail.
