We recommend a p e r i o d i c inspection o f t h e t a p - c h a n g e r equipment to maintain a h i g h r e l i a b i l i t y i n s e r v i c e. T h e below t a b l e indicates t h e n u m b e r o f t a p - c h a n g e r operations a f t e r which an inspection s h o u l d b e c a r r i e d o u t. T h i s f i g u r e has been experienced from t h e o i l qualities n o r m a l l y u s e d. Inspection i n t e r v a l s v a r y according t o t h e t h e t a p - c h a n g e r model a n d t h e o p e r a t i n g through-current. ‘If t h e number o f s w i t c h i n g operations indicated i n t h e t a b l e s h o u l d n o t h a v e been reached inspection w i l l become necessary a t t h e latest after a p e r i o d o f two t o t h r e e y e a r s. We recommend t h a t t h e inspection should o n l y b e c a r r i e d o u t b y a well t r a i n e d personnei. D u r i n g such a n inspection t h e d i v e r t e r s w i t c h i n s e r t h a s to b e w i t h d r a w n , disassembled, cleaned a n d checked. T h e diverter -- ~~ switch i n s e r t should n o t b e exposed t o atmospheric h u m i d i t y m o r e t h a n n e c e s s a r y ( m a x. for ten h o u r s ). O n t h i s occasion the o i l i n the d i v e r t e r s w i t c h o i l compartment should b e changed. F u r t h e r m o r e t h e d r i v e s h a f t w i t h bevel g e a r , motor d r i v e , p r o t e c t i v e r e l a y a n d , i f e x i s t i n g t h e oil f i l t e r u n i t , h a v e to b e checked f o r p r o p e r operation. When o r d e r i n g spares please g i v e always t a p - c h a n g e r serial n u m b e r a n d n u m b e r o f s w i t c h i n g operations c a r r i e d o u t. 2.3 Oil filling quantities T h e o i l q u a n t i t y necessary for t h e t a p - c h a n g e r i s a b o u t 200 l i t r e s. Pro- c u r e t h e necessary q u a n t i t y o f n e w o i l w i t h s u r p l u s for c l e a n i n g , as well a s s u i t a b l e v e s s e l for t h e f o u l e d o i l a n d a s u i t a b l e o i l p u m p for oil replacement. 2.4 Lifting device a n d w i t h d r a w i n g height P r o c u r e a suitable l i f t i n g device for w i t h d r a w i n g the d i v e r t e r switch i n s e r t. Withdrawing h e i g h t i s a b o u t 2.100 mm a n d the w e i g h t o f t h e i n s e r t i s as a maximum 150 k g. 2.5 Grounding. Disconnect t h e transformer from the l i n e. S h o r t a n d g r o u n d a l l terminals. 2.6 Operating position I t i s p o s s i b l e t o remove t h e d i v e r t e r s w i t c h i n s e r t i n a n y s e r v i c e p o s i - tion. But it is recommendable because of the checking work to be per- formed w i t h i n t h e t a p - c h a n g e r head t o w i t h d r a w t h e d i v e r t e r s w i t c h i n - sert i n the adjustment position (see adjustment p l a n ). B y operating clockwise t h e motor d r i v e w i t h t h e h a n d c r a n k t h e t a p - c h a n g e r can b e brought into the adjustment position. Attention: Do n o t operate t h e motor d r i v e before re-installing the d i v e r t e r switch unit. REMOVAL OF THE DIVERTER SWITCH INSERT S h u t all valves between oil conservator, t r a n s f o r m e r t a n k a n d t a p - c h a n g e r head. Lower the oil level in the tap-changer head. For this purpose open the vent screw of the t a p - c h a n g e r h e a d cover ( c a p M16 s i z e 2 2 , socket head cap screw M6) and open t h e d r a i n valve of the tap-changer head. I n case of s t a t i o n a r y o i l f i l t e r operate t h e sample v a l v e of t h e return " p i p e a n d o p e r a t e t h e o i l f i l t e r unit. D r a i n o i l from t h e t a p - c h a n g e r head t i l l t h e e n e r g y accumulator i s free from o i l ( l o o k t h r o u g h t h e inspection window o f t h e t a p - c h a n g e r head cover). I n case o f replace- m e n t see t h e item dealing w i t h replacement w o r k. After c h e c k i n g t h e safety diaphragm p u t cover o n t h e t a p - c h a n g e r head ( n o t e g a s k e t ) a n d attach i t b y some screws. 5. REPLACEMENT WORK ON TAP-CHANGER HEAD 5.1 Roller b o l t o f Geneva cam wheel (fig. 9) Remove o u t s i d e c i r c l i p a n d r o l l e r. Remove rivet b y u s i n g drill 1 1 - 1 1 , 5 mm # a n d r e m o v e b o l t. Press i n replacement b o l t a n d r i v e t b y u s i n g a s u i t a b l e s u r f a c e. D u r i n g replacem ent note n u m b e r o f shock absorbin g s p r i n g s a n d compens ating s p r i n g s , i f a n y , w h i c h h a v e t o b e u s e d a g a i n a n d f i t t e d a t t h e same place. I n o r d e r t o a v o i d i n t e r c h a n g e o f shock absorbin g s p r i n g p a c k s , i t i s recomme ndable to change one p a c k a f t e r t h e o t h e r ( f i g. 1 9 ). Take care that the spring force indicated on the front of the spring screw coincides (spring f o r c e = 2 x 35 k g o r 2 x 350 N ). S p r i n g f o r c e d i f f e r e n c e s o f + 6 $ a r e permissible. 8.
