General Histology Lecture 8 Urinary system 2 Ahmed Abdul-Aziz Muhammad. PhD Reference : Anthony L. MESCHER, Jonquiere's Basic Histology TEXT & ATLAS Renal corpuscles filtration Renal corpuscles filtration takes place via the following three steps : 1. Glomerular basement membrane 2. Podocyte 3. Urinary space What's after filtration? Proximal tubule These products like NaCl, Glucose, Water, Amino Acids, etc. Here, in the PCT, nearly 70% NaCl, 98% Glucose, 70% Water & 97% Amino acids are being re-absorbed.at proximal convoluted tubules Proximal convoluted tubule – Loop of Henle The thin limb has simple squamous epithelium that gradual changed to low cuboidal at the end of the thin segment. The thick ascending limb has simple cuboidal epithelium with apical micro projections and undulating cell border. No Bruch borders. Through the ascending limb of Henle’s Loop only some particular substances like 25% Sodium, 25% Calcium, 20% Potassium, and 55% Magnesium can be removed in a small percentage of Re-Absorption takes place here. Whereas in the descending limb, only water is removed. In this part of the Nephron, concentrated urine is formed. Loop of Henle Distal convoluted tubule: Connecting segment: Collecting Ducts: Collecting Ducts: Juxtaglomerular apparatus Juxtaglomerular apparatus Ureter ureter Urinary bladder Urinary bladder Urethra Urethra
