Study Notes
Renal Corpuscles Filtration
- Filtration takes place in three steps: glomerular basement membrane, podocyte, and urinary space
Proximal Convoluted Tubule (PCT)
- Reabsorption of various substances occurs in the PCT, including:
- 70% of NaCl
- 98% of Glucose
- 70% of Water
- 97% of Amino Acids
Loop of Henle
- Consists of three parts: thin limb, thick ascending limb, and descending limb
- Thin limb:
- Has simple squamous epithelium that gradually changes to low cuboidal at the end
- Thick ascending limb:
- Has simple cuboidal epithelium with apical micro projections and undulating cell border
- No Brush borders
- Reabsorption of specific substances occurs, including:
- 25% of Sodium
- 25% of Calcium
- 20% of Potassium
- 55% of Magnesium
- Descending limb:
- Only water is removed
- Concentrated urine is formed in this part of the nephron
Other Components of the Urinary System
- Distal Convoluted Tubule
- Connecting Segment
- Collecting Ducts
- Juxtaglomerular Apparatus
- Ureter
- Urinary Bladder
- Urethra

Description
This quiz covers the process of filtration in renal corpuscles, including the three steps involved and the reabsorption of substances in the proximal convoluted tubule. It is based on Lecture 8 of a Histology course, referencing Anthony L. Mescher's 'Jonquiere's Basic Histology TEXT & ATLAS'.
