NAME: FARIDAT MOJISOLA OLUFOWOBI DEAPARTMENT: MEDICINE AND SURGERY JAMB NO: 202441389019FF COLLEGE: SQ3R TECHNIQUE SQ3R is a reading comprehension method named for its five steps: survey, question, read, recite, and review. SURVEY Gather the information necessary to focus and formulate goals To help your mind get ready to receive the topic at hand, read the headline. Learn how each chapter fits the author’s goals by reading the introduction and/or summary. Then, concentrate on the author’s list of the most crucial elements. Take note of each headline and subsection in bold. Prior to reading, set up your thoughts and create a framework for the information that will follow. Take note of any graphics—charts, maps, graphs, etc.—that serve a purpose. QUESTION Help your mind engage and concentrate Change the boldface heading for each part to as many questions as you believe will be addressed in that area. The better the questions, the more probable you will understand them. You may always add more questions as you go. When your mind is actively searching for answers to questions, it gets engaged with learning. READ Fill in the information around the mental structures you've been building Read one section at a time with your questions in mind and look for the answers. For instance, if the heading is “A Limited Partnership”, read it as “What is a limited partnership?” Now you have created a purpose for reading because you are looking for the answer to the question. RECITE Retrain your mind to concentrate and learn as it reads Examine the questions you came up with or the ones at the chapter's conclusion after reading. Are you able to respond to them? Go back, read the relevant passages again, and make notes if you are unable to. After you have finished reading, take some time to recite or recall whatever you can. REVIEW Refine your mental organization and begin building memory For optimal understanding and retention, it is crucial to perform a comprehensive review within 24 hours of studying new content. If you don’t review within the next day, you risk losing 80% of what you have learnt.
