Ocean’s Depth ○ Average ocean depth = 3000 m (9800 ft) We would not have oceans if we did not have ocean basins to catch water. So how do ocean basins exist? ○ Ocean basins exist because oceanic crusts sit lower than continental crust. Sits lower because Oceanic crust density is thinner and denser than the puffed up continental. Isostasy ○ Explains where the crust ‘sits’ in the mantle. [ Got tired.
