A person's gender identity may be the same as or different from their birth- assigned sex GENDER EXPRESSION GENDER EXPRESSION Someone presents their gender through behavior, clothing, hairstyles, voice, body characteristics. It can be masculine, feminine, a mix of both or neither. A person's chosen name and pronoun are also common ways of expressing gender. Respecting Expression and and Identity. GENDER STEREOTYPES Gender Stereotypes Gender stereotypes are beliefs or assumptions about characteristics, traits, behaviors, and roles of people based on their gender. These stereotypes are created and reinforced by gender norms and can lead to biased judgments and discrimination against individuals who do not conform to them. Gender stereotypes can be positive and negative, but they tend to fit rigid ideas of masculinity and femininity. Example: Women should be caregivers. Men are natural leaders. Women are too emotional. Men are unemotional. SEXUAL ORIENTATION SEXUAL ORIENTATION a person's identity in relation to the gender or genders to which they are sexually attracted; the fact of being heterosexual, homosexual, etc. HOMOSEXUAL HOMOSEXUAL refers to sexual orientation where a person is emotionally, romantically, or sexually attracted to people of the same gender. Common terms are Gay and Lesbian. HETEROSEXUAL HETEROSEXUAL refers to a sexual orientation where a person is emotionally, romantically, or sexually attracted to people of opposite gender. Common term is straight, informal term often used. BISEXUAL BISEXUAL Bisexuality refers to a sexual orientation where a person is emotionally, romantically, or sexually attracted to more than one gender. Typically, this means being attracted to both men and women. and also non-binary people. HOMOPHOBIC HOMOPHOBIC Homophobia refers to an irrational fear, dislike, or hatred of homosexual people or homosexuality in general. It can manifest in various forms, including: Prejudice: Negative attitude about LGBTQ+ Discrimination: Unfair treatment of people. SELF The physiological differences between sexes help lay the groundwork for the development of psychological and social wellness and one's gender that strongly influences one's perceptions of sexual wellness. 2. FAMILY Family environment is the normal and usual place for forming the children and young people to consolidate and exercise the virtues of charity, temperance, fortitude and chastity. Parents must find time to be with their children and take some time to talk with them. 3. PEERS AND FRIENDS boys and girls socialize to play in different styles usually learn to prefer different sets of toys. Fathers and Mothers tend to do gender-specific roles. Women are generally seen as subordinate to men and are expected to be obedient and tend to their families. 4. SCHOOL AND CHURCH The church and school play a vital role in helping parents influence their adolescents' understanding about sexuality and to help them make responsible and healthy sexual choices now and in the future. 5. MASS MEDIA A part of today's life and everyday living. Media either social media is everywhere. With teenagers exposed to mass media, they tend to absorb people's opinion and start looking up to celebrities. Teenagers emulate them and are influenced to change their attitudes and behaviors too.
