GOSPEL READIN G James 1:2-4;6 Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you encounter various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. And let perseverance be perfect, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. But if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and he will be given it. But he should ask in faith, not doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed about by the wind. It also refers to the skill in discerning or an act of perceiving or discerning something. For us Christians, genuine discernment refers to understanding the will of God for us which is only possible through the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives to certain of the faithful the gifts of wisdom, faith and discernment for the sake of this common good which is prayer. Each day, we discern the will of God for us through prayer. It serves as the most basic and tangible expression of our personal relationship with the Triune God: Father, Son and Spirit. Through prayer, we commit ourselves to God as His children who are destined for eternal life. Prayer can provide comfort, guidance, and strength during difficult times, and can serve as a tool for personal growth and Discerning God's will means learning to listen to God's voice in our hearts and what He wants for our lives. Through discernment, we practice being an active and engaged listener, strengthening our relationship with God through prayer and trusting that God would only lead us down a path of happiness and fulfillment. "How can you know if a choice you’re about to make is what God wants?" Discerning God's Will requires the three Ds: desire, data and, finally, discernment. Desire: We should be aware of our emotions. Are you excited or afraid? Learn to be honest with yourself. Data: We gather information on what the options are, where they are coming from, and what they would mean for your life. Discernment: Choose the option that increases faith, hope and love How can you know what God wants you to do in different situations? Are you willing to do it?
