Maintaining good fitness and health is crucial because it impacts more than just our physical well-being; it affects our entire quality of life and daily performance. When we stay fit and healthy, we have more energy, better mood, and improved mental clarity, which helps us perform better at work or school and enjoy our daily activities more fully. Regular exercise and a balanced diet also help prevent chronic diseases, reduce stress, and enhance our ability to cope with challenges. Ultimately, good fitness and health contribute to a more vibrant, active, and fulfilling life. DEFINITION OF FITNESS & HEALTH Most people believe being healthy and being fit are one and the same. In reality, they can be separate states of physical being. You can be really fit, and not very healthy, and you can be very healthy and not very fit. The best benefits are found with trying to get a balance out of both sides, this requires us to identify the difference between fitness and health. HEALTH AS DEFINITION Health has been defined by the World Health Organisation as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. It includes aging well, longevity, quality of life, freedom from pain, etc. FITNESS AS DEFINITION Fitness, on the other hand, is defined as a set of attributes that people have or achieve that relates to the ability to perform physical activity. Physical Fitness as Defined A person who is free from illnesses and can do physical or sports activities and still has an extra energy to do more activities is considered to be physically fit. Physical fitness is a combination of health fitness and body fitness. Physical Fitness as Defined Health fitness refers to your body’s ability to fight off diseases. Body fitness, on the other hand, is refers to the ability to do strenuous physical or sports activities without getting tired easily. Physical Fitness as Defined It is not enough for someone to only look good and feel good in order to be called physically fit. An individual should also take into consideration his kind of lifestyle including the food he/she takes every day because it can lead to better health. Here at the Knock Out The Stigma, Inc., (“KOTS”), we seek to provide our peers and participating practitioners a holistic set of tools and information to empower them in increasing their clients' happiness and satisfaction with their life's journeys. The search for balance in life leads one to examine their holistic well-being. Holistic well-being is the pursuit of continued growth and balance in the eight dimensions of well-being. A lot of people think about "well-being" in terms of physical health only. The word Well-Being invokes thoughts of nutrition, exercise, weight management, blood pressure, etc. Well-being, however, is much more than physical health. Holistc well-being is a full integration of all six dimensions of our physical reality, as well as our mental and spiritual well-being. It is a complex set of interactions that when balanced together leads to quality of life. EXPLORING THE EIGHT DIMENSIONS OF HOLISTIC WELL-BEING Holistic Well-Being is commonly viewed as having eight dimensions. Each dimension contributes to our own sense of well-being or quality of life, and each affects and overlaps the others. At times one may be more prominent than others, but the neglect of any one dimension for any extended length of time may have adverse effects on overall health and often is the cause of "dis-ease.“ Dimension 1 – Environmental Well-Being Dimension 2 – Physical Well-Being Dimension 3 – Emotional Well-Being Dimension 4 – Financial Well-Being Dimension 5 – Intellectual Well-Being Dimension 6 – Social Well-Being Dimension 7 – Spiritual Well-Being Dimension 8 – Occupational Well-Being DIMENSION 1 – ENVIRONMENTAL WELL-BEING T i p s an d su ggesti on s for op ti m al en v i r on m en tal w el l- bei n g: Many people focus on the grander scale of the E x pl ore th e C hi n ese pri n ci pl es of environment when discussing this particular dimension F u ng S hu i for y ou r h ome an d/or focusing on cleaner air, oceans and conservation efforts. offi ce We like to think of it in a much more personal sense.
