Police College RP06 Roads Policing RP06 Test Certificates Introduction Private motorcars, motorcycles, mopeds, and motor caravans must all be tested annually four years after the date of first registration. The test covers a wide area of mechanical and functional aspects of the vehicle, all linked to roadworthiness and safety. The vehicle will need to be examined and pass the test before being issued with a certificate. OFFICIAL [SENSITIVE] Page 53 Police College RP06 Points to prove offence: 1. to use on a road or other public place at any time 2. or cause to be used 3. or permit to be used a motor vehicle without a valid test certificate. Article 63 Road Traffic (NI) Order 1995 Procedures Can be dealt with via non-endorsable ticket £60 at roadside. If multiple offences it can be part of prosecution file. Certificate A test certificate is normally valid for 12 months. Exemptions The following are examples of some of the vehicles which are exempt from the need to have a test certificate: Police and fire vehicles. Invalid carriages. Vehicles going to or from a pre-arranged vehicle test. Bringing to mechanic to complete pre-arranged work.
