STAGE 6 Unit focus: A Fairy Gruesome Murder Text focus: Diary Evidence C: Mr Wolf’s Diary 3rd December, Today was another day like the others, monotonous. I was transferred back to the courtroom to hear whether the jury had reached a verdict, but still, my freedom eludes me. I am struggling to understand what is taking them so long? Surely the evidence from Clarence should be enough to convince them? The pig fell into his own pot; I’m convinced of it. I have to remain hopeful that justice will prevail. I know I didn’t kill that pig, that I couldn’t kill him. I know what I said in the greengrocer’s, but that was months ago, and he was threatening to tell everybody that it was me who ate Red Riding Hood’s grandmother. The turmoil our family has been through, particularly due to the actions of my wretched brother, is enough; why should I continue to suffer because of some porcine lies? And yet, part of what Clarence said doesn’t ring true. I know Reginald was clumsy; he was well-known for it in the village. Even Humpty Dumpty called him accident-prone, and there’s a man who knows what it’s like to fall down. Only the other day, Mother Goose had to drag Reginald out of the way of an oncoming cart a er he’d tripped and fallen in the road while reading a newspaper. On the other hand, I can’t help but feel that a man who fell into his own pot would splash around while trying to escape. There would be water everywhere, and yet there wasn’t a puddle or a mark to be seen when I found him lying face down in the water. It was as though he had fallen in and given up, unless… Could it really be that somebody else did the dastardly deed, and I’m the one taking the fall? Was he truly murdered, but the jury is being led a merry dance towards me? It would make sense. My name has been marred by what my brother did, and this would be a perfect way to get rid of the last of my family. But who? Who else would want Reginald dead? One of his brothers? Their business is struggling lately, but surely they wouldn’t want him dead? Perhaps for the insurance? I must go and tell my lawyer, Miss White, what I have realised.
