If your course is online, please have access to a desktop computer, laptop, chrome or tablet during class sessions.\*\** **Course Description** This course is designed to extend the range of oral communication, reading, writing, and media literacy skills that students need for success in their secondary school academic programs and in their daily lives. Students will analyze literary texts from contemporary and historical periods, interpret and evaluate informational and graphic texts, and create oral, written, and media texts in various forms. An important focus will be on the selective use of strategies that contribute to effective communication. Assessments will be divided into these categories: Knowledge and Understanding 17.5%, Thinking 17.5%, Communication 17.5%, and Application 17.5%. Developing learning skills and work habits (taking responsibility, doing your own work, working with classmates, staying organized, taking chances, and watching your own progress) is a very important part of your learning success. Examples include but are not limited to ChatGPT, Google Translate, and other language models or translation software. **Assignments with 30% or more content generated by AI will receive a mark of 0.** AI should only be used to supplement learning rather than replace the student's own work and thinking. Plagiarism: Plagiarism is defined as using someone else's words, ideas, or work without proper acknowledgment.
