Write all these questions-answers in (Literature C.W) Copy in fine handwriting. Ch-1:The Mermaid’s Lagoon 1.a)What is a lagoon? Ans:- A lagoon is a shallow area of water separated from the rest of the sea or lake by a narrow bit of land or reefs. b) What do the children do when they visit the lagoon? Ans:- The children were happy to enjoy their long summer days on the lagoon. They felt amused swimming or floating most of the time happily adopting the mermaid games in the water, though, the children and the mermaids had no friendly terms between them. c) Who else uses the lagoon and what do they do there? Ans:- The mermaids also use the lagoon as they like. They love to bask on the Marooners' Rock combing out their hair in a lazy manner. On sunny days after rain, the mermaids played with bubbles made of many colours. d) Why has Wendy not been to the lagoon at night? Ans:- Wendy has not been to the lagoon at night as it was utterly unsafe for mortals. The mermaids uttered some ominous cries during that mysterious hours of night. Besides, Wendy set some fixed rules for everyone being in bed by seven. e] What does Wendy make the children do after lunch? Ans:- Wendy set some tight rules for everyone. And so, children had to rest half an hour after their midday meal. f] When the pirates come, what does Peter get all the children to do? Ans:- Peter Pan is a daring and adventurous boy with an acumen of sensing danger even at the slightest hint of it. Getting the pirates nearby, he sprang erect like a dog, roused other boys and ordered them to dive deep underwater. g] What do the mermaids use rainbow for? Ans:- ‘Mermaids Lagoon' is a mystical island of Neverland. It is the favourite resting place of the mermaids who live within the depth of the sea surrounding the island. They use rainbow to play. They treat bubbles as balls, hitting them gaily from one to another with their tails, and trying to keep them in the rainbow till they burst. h] Why does Wendy not rouse the children? Why should she have roused them? Who rouses them in the end? Ans:- Wendy is a young mother. She thinks they must stick to the rule of resting about half an hour after lunch. She should have roused the children not merely because of the unknown that was stalking them, but because it was no longer a safe zone for them to sleep on a rock grown cold and unfriendly. Peter rouses them in the end. Reference to the Context- a) Who was stitching? Ans:- Wendy was stitching. b) What was the temperature, weather and mood at the lagoon before the change? Ans:- The weather was hot. The piercing sun rays raised the temperature up in the Marooners' Rock. The lagoon seemed to be a fine place to visit during the day time because of the mermaids who laughed and enjoyed merrily around them with the nature that appeared friendly and lovable to all. c) What was the temperature, weather and mood at the lagoon after the change? Ans:- After the sunset when evening came, the shadows stole across the water turning it grey and cold. Wendy could not thread her needle. The lagoon that was such a familiar place earlier appeared to be dull, cold, dreadful and unfavourable. Here are the changes that overtook the land in the day and at night. ____The End____
