3 METHODS OF RESEARCH RESEARCH AND DESIGN LEARNING OUTCOMES WEEK 3: RESEARCH AND DESIGN Case Scenario: Research and Design can be easily explained in the following situation. Suppose you are the Light Rail Transit (LRT) admisnistrator and you are tasked to operate the LRT in such a manner that you will incur lower expenses but will give the highest revenue. LEARNING OUTCOMES WEEK 3: RESEARCH AND DESIGN If your organization does not have any data as to what day and time of the week will there be less passengers as well as the day and time of the week, where there will be numerous passenger, then you have to conduct a research. LEARNING OUTCOMES WEEK 3: RESEARCH AND DESIGN In this phase of research will use the traditional data gathering procedures. After conducting this procedure, the researchers will come to understand why there are so many passengers during 7:30am to 8:30am and why there are less passegers during 2:00pm. Recall that we conduct research to UNDERSTAND THE WORLD. In this phase, we already understand the problem. LEARNING OUTCOMES WEEK 3: RESEARCH AND DESIGN However, if you already have such data, all you have to do is to make an appropriate scheduling system so that you employ a significant numbers of trains during the time of the day, where are numerous passengers. LEARNING OUTCOMES WEEK 3: RESEARCH AND DESIGN In the 1st situation where in the organization does not have any historical data, the LRT Administartor needs to do both research and design, while in 2nd situation where historical data is ready available, the admistrator needs to do a design. LEARNING OUTCOMES WEEK 3: RESEARCH AND DESIGN Hence, a research work is different from design. In the foregoing paragraphs, a research work is needed to make a good design. In practical application, a person may directly do a design without conducting a research because the design may be predicated by a previous research done by others. LEARNING OUTCOMES WEEK 3: RESEARCH AND DESIGN A final design may need initial research and a final conclusion in research may need an initial design. Reseach and design may be recursive with each other. There are many research outputs which will lead to design and some designs which will lead to research. SUMMARY WEEK 3: RESEARCH AND DESIGN QUESTIONS ??? SUMMARY WEEK 3: RESEARCH AND DESIGN ASSESMENT TASK NO. 1 LEARNING OUTCOMES WEEK 3: RESEARCH AND DESIGN Engr. Dale Andrew Zalameda is an Assistant Professor III of Batangas State University under the College of Engineering. From his 18 years of experience in teaching progamming, he became curious if the basic calculus grade of a basic education gradaute under the K to 12 curriculum under Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand has something to do with their programming skills. LEARNING OUTCOMES WEEK 3: RESEARCH AND DESIGN So, in his class, EAC 120L2 - Computer Programming, he asked his students their final grade in basic calculus. At the end of the semester, he correlates the basic calculus grade of his students to their final grade in EAC 120L2. Does Engr. Zalameda conduct a research or a design? Explain and justify your answer. SUMMARY WEEK 4: RESEARCH METHODS END OF PRESENTATION THANK YOU
