In French, the form of the demonstrative adjective depends on the gender and number of the noun that it goes with. * **Demonstrative adjectives** | Singular | Before Conosonant | Before vowel sound | Plural | |---|---|---|---| | Masculine | *ce café* | *cet élève* | *ces cafés, ces élèves* | | Feminine | *cette surprise* | *cette amie* | *ces surprises, ces amies* | * *Ce copain organise une fête.* _That friend is planning a party._ * *Cet hôtel est trop loin du centre-ville.* _That hotel is too far from downtown._ * *Cette glace est excellente.* _This ice cream is excellent._ * *Je préfère ces cadeaux.* _I prefer those gifts_. * **Note that the forms of *ce* can refer to a noun that is near (this/these) or far (that/those).
