Name: _________________________________ Crocodile’s Partner What do you think a hungry crocodile would do if a bird came near it? Eat it up! Crocodiles eat almost any kind of animal. But there is one kind of bird that crocodiles do not eat. In fact, they even let this bird come into their mouth, but they don’t bite it! It is called a plover bird. If a plover bird sees a crocodile’s mouth open and food stuck in its teeth, the bird will come into the crocodile’s mouth and pick the food out of its teeth. The bird then eats this food and has an easy meal. If the food stayed stuck in the crocodile’s teeth, its mouth would become dirty and maybe even infected. They make great partners since they both get something they need! Why do crocodiles treat plover birds differently than other animals? ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ Remember to use: © Erin Guge
