**CPAR REVIEWER** **Contemporary Arts in the Philippines** **Philippine Contemporary Art -** an offshoot of social realism brought about by Martial Law. **Music** -- the latest trends and musical styles in entertainment industry **Dance**- the style of expressive movements that combines elements of several genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet **Theater** - a collaborative form of fine art that uses live performers to present the experience of a real or imagined event before a live audience. **Visual Art**s- are art forms such as painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, video, filmmaking, design, crafts, and architecture. **Literature** - works written after World War II through the current day. **Film & broadcast arts** -combines high standards of training in production skills **Contemporary Art Forms** are the "art of today" ex. Painting, sculpture, Photography, performance arts, etc. **REPORTER 10** **Various Contemporary Art Forms** **Contemporary Music** -- the OPM (Original Pop Music) refers to popular contemporary music in the Philippines. Ryan Cayabyab is one of the best OPM composers in which his songs have several revisions by the different artists to communicate with the current environment. **Contemporary Dance** -- Swag stresses versatility and improvisation and can be danced to almost any style of music or united with other dance forms to create new styles of movement. **Contemporary Theater** -- protest theater is a theater that comments on political and social issues like the Teatro Pabrika which dramatizes issues related to wage increase, worker's benefits, management and government's policies towards labor. **Contemporary Visual Arts** -- Assemblage is a form of sculpture composed of \"found\" objects arranged in such a way that they create a piece. Creating artworks from recyclable objects. **Contemporary Literature** -- Spoken word/poetry is an avenue to voice feelings and opinions in a creative way for individuals and communities to address different social realities of the current times. Among his various compositions are; Da Coconut performed by Smokey Mountain and Anak ng Pasig by Geneva Cruz. **Levi Celerio --** National Music Artist for Literature. A Filipino lyricist and composer. He was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for being the only musician who could play music using a leaf**.** He was a Filipino composer and lyricist who is credited to writing not less than 4,000 songs. Celerio was recognized as a National Artist of the Philippines for Music and Literature in 1997. **Nicanor Abelardo --** He was credited for bringing the KUndiman to the level of Arts.One of the Triumvirate of Filipino composers. He wrote most of his important works while teaching at the conservatory. His graduation piece, a Piano Sonata in G Major, was the first Sonata made by a Filipino composer\[a\] and his postgraduate piece, the Piano Concerto in B-flat minor, was the first concerto made by a Filipino composer. Almost all of his kundiman was written during his time as well. **Alice Reyes --** The Mother of Contemporary Dance.The founder of Ballet Philippines.She made a lasting impact on the development and promotion of Contemporary Dance in the Phils. And her biggest contribution is the development of distinctly Filipino Modern Dance. **Francisca Reyes Aquino --** She is the Folkdance pioneer in the Philippines. She published enormous books regarding Philippine Dances like Fundamentals of Dances Steps and Music. She published a thesis in 1926 entitled Philippine Folk Dances and Games where she noted on previously unrecorded forms of local celebration, ritual and sports. Her thesis was made with teachers and playground instructors from both public and private institutions in mind. **Ramon Obusan --** He promoted the Philippine ethnic dances and performed them with respect and authenticity.He is also an acclaimed archivist , researcher and documentary filmmaker focused on Phil. Culture. Among Obusan\'s notable works are the following:Vamos a Belen! The main objective of the award is to honor and support traditional folk artists and to see to it that their skills and crafts are preserved. He is considered a bantugan. He is considered as a master of the Ambahan poetry. WHANG-OD OGGAY -- Mambabatok **REPORTER 17** **TRADITIONAL FOLK ARTS IN THE PHILIPPINES** **FOLK ARCHITECTURE** These are simple structures built of local materials and available tools to provide shelter for its inhabitants. **Bahay Kubo** - is a symbol of Philippine culture as it depicts the most nurtured Filipino value of called 'bayanihan,' which attributes to a spirit of collective unity or effort to accomplish an objective. In fact, bahaykubo is the national shelter of the Philippines. **Mosque** - A mosque is generally a very symbolic place for a Muslim, being a humble way for Muslims to recreate pure divine presence on earth. The primary purpose of the mosque is to serve as a place where Muslims can come together for prayer. **Intramuros** - It was designed as a tight grid to keep its streets functional but contained. **Rice Terraces** - is an epitome of harmony between humankind and nature. ZARAGOSA - Santo Domingo Church, Our Lady of Rosary in Tala, Don Bosco Church, etc** **MARITIME TRANSPORT** These are simple marine vessels made for the transport of goods and people living by the sea and other waterways in the surroundings regions. **Wooden Banca** - the outrigger canoe is a small wooden boat used for daily transport by people living near the coast **Vinta** - it is traditional boat made by Sama -- Bajau, these boats are used for inter-island transport of people and goods. **CARVING** is the act of using tools to shape something from a material by scraping away portions of that material. **Sandug**o (Blood Compact) by Napoleon "billy" Abueva. -- is a Visayan word which means \"one blood\". This is considered as the first treaty of friendship between the Spaniards and Filipinos. **Oblation** (Up Diliman) by Guillermo E. Tolentino - is a symbol for Jose Rizal's Mi Ultimo Adios. It also symbolizes all the unknown heroes who fell to free our country from the Spaniards. This statue for me really captures the symbolism.
