University for Development Studies School of Allied Health Sciences Department of Community Nutrition Course Outline Name of Lecturer: Dr. Colette Santah Contact: 0243667406 E-mail: [email protected] Office Hours: By appointment Academic Year: 2022/2023 Course Code: CMN 213 First Trimester Course Title: Rural Sociology Program: Community Nutrition Credits: 2 Lecture Times: Mondays 7.00 am to 9.00 am Venue: ICT Auditorium, Dungu Campus Course Description Rural Sociology is a course that is concerned with social processes and the entire system of interpersonal and group relationships involved in rural life. Upon completing this course, you will be equipped with the basic knowledge of the nature, sociological terms, settlement patterns, rural infrastructures, rural social systems, rural communities and communication technology, social interaction and change of rural areas. Course Objectives After successful completion of the course, students should: Know the basic concepts of sociology in relation to rural areas Appreciate factors underlying acceptance/resistance to social change Recognize the patterns of rural settlement Appreciate the driving force of rural development Method of teaching: The course will be delivered by lectures, group assignment (totaling 25% ) and a written final exam (totaling 75%).
