It focuses on: 1. Regional Art Forms: Understanding and appreciating the unique contemporary art practices and traditions specific to different regions of the Philippines. 2. Artistic Techniques: Studying various techniques used by contemporary artists in the region, including mixed media, digital art, performance art, and others. 3. Art in Aryan is “Ar” which means to “join or to put together” Artizein in Greek, meaning “to prepare” Ars or Artis in Latin, which means “ability or skill” Arts is the use of skill and imagination in creation of aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences, that can be shared with others. Arts is the human ability to make things of beauty and things that stir us” It is the result of man’s manipulation of talents and materials Art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or performing artifacts, expressing the author’s imaginative, conceptual ideas, or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power. Art represents something beautiful or meaningful, or is the arrangement of lines, colors, shapes and other aesthetic elements , for as long as the completed work is a product of expressing ambitions, emotions, experiences, or thoughts, it is considered art. Art is defined as the manifestation of human creativity and skill to express oneself. This is why we learn and understand artists and the regions where they come from – their artworks reflect them and the society that they belong to. Art has changed over time and the production of art forms has indeed, evolved. This, leads us to the very center of this subject – Contemporary art What is Contemporary Art? It refers to artworks created from the late 20th century to the present, reflecting current trends, technologies, and social issues. It encompasses a diverse range of styles, mediums, and approaches, including the following; 1. Combining various materials and techniques in a single artwork. - Mixed Media For example, an artist can take a photograph and then paint over it with oil paints to create a new piece that is mixed media. Similarly, a sculptor can carve a sculpture out of wood or ice and then attach a variety of different objects to it to create a mixed media sculpture. 2. Utilizingdigital tools and technologies to create or enhance art. - Digital Art - Digital art is any artwork that draws upon digital technology as an essential part of its creative process. It encompasses a wide range of techniques, from digital drawings, paintings, and illustration, to photos, videos, and even sculpture. 3. Creating immersive environments or experiences using a variety of materials and methods. - Installation Art - usually designed for a specific place and for a temporary period of time. 4. Live art that may involve acting, dance, or other forms of performance, often emphasizing the artist’s actions. - Performance Art 5. Focusing on ideas and concepts rather than traditional aesthetics or materials. - Conceptual Art 6. Using video as a primary medium to create artistic expressions. - Video Art 7. Engaging the audience as active participants in the artwork. - Interactive Art Assessment: Provide your answers to the following questions on a single sheet of paper. 1.
