## Parts of the Brain 1. **Forebrain:** Part of the brain that processes information 2. **Midbrain:** Regulates movement and processing auditory and visual balance 3. **Hindbrain:** Relays sensory information, coordinates movement, balance and equilibrium 4. **Cerebral Cortex:** Dysfunction: less control over social-emotional behavior. 5. **Basal Ganglia:** A group of structures linked to the thalamus in the base of the brain. Involved in coordination of movement. 6. **Basal Ganglia:** Dysfunction: motor discrepancies, and malfunctions that can cause tremors, involuntary and slow movement. 7. **Limbic System:** Part of the brain involved in behavioral and emotional responses. 8. **Limbic System:** Helps us adapt to changes in our environment 9. **Amygdala:** Lesions in the amygdala can result in Visual Agnosia and Hypersexuality 10. **Hippocampus:** Damage to the hippocampus results in Narcolepsy 11. **Gestalt Law of Psychology:** According to this view, we cannot fully understand behavior when we only break phenomena down into smaller parts. 12. **Thalamus:** Controls our endocrine system, regulates our emotions and stress, plays an important role in sleep, and regulates behavior like fighting, feeding, fleeing, and mating. 13. **Hippocampus:** Dysfunction: Narcolepsy 14. **Septum:** Anger and Fear 15. **Introspection:** Means looking into oneself or self-observation or self-analysis 16. **Wilhem Wundt:** A German psychologist known in the field of structuralism. 17. **Reticular Activating System:** Plays the role in the regulation of one's consciousness. 18. **RAS:** Dysfunction: Drowsiness and Hypersomnia 19. **Superior Colliculi:** Involved in our sense of sight 20. **Inferior Colliculi:** Involved in our sense of hearing. 21. **Cerebellum:** Plays a role in one's sense of balance, coordination and muscle tone. 22. **Pons:** Bridge between the cerebrum and cerebellum, plays a part in our facial expressions and movement. 23. **Pons:** Dysfunction: sensory and arousal dysfunction and sleep disturbances. 24. **Thalamus:** Dysfunction: disrupted sleep and wake-up patterns. 25.
