Department of Business Management College Humanities Climate Change Prepared By: Shakar Jwamer Aziz Spuer vised By: Aso Husamalddin Introduction Climate change refers to long-term shifts in global weather patterns and temperatures. The planet’s climate has changed naturally throughout history, but human activities such as burning fossil fuels have significantly accelerated the pace of change since the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century. This report will explore the causes, effects, and solutions related to climate change. Key Causes of Climate Change: 1-Burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas releases greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane into the atmosphere. These gases trap heat from the sun and warm the planet. 2-Deforestation and land clearing also release stored CO2. Forests naturally capture and store CO2 from the atmosphere, but land clearing undermines this process. 3-Increased usage of fertilizers releases nitrous oxide emissions which is 300 times more potent than CO2 over longer periods. 4-Certain industrial processes for materials like cement, steel, and chemicals release greenhouse gases. Effects of Climate Change: 1-Rising Sea Levels: As air and ocean temperatures increase, ocean water expands and land ice melts. Both factors contribute to rising sea levels which threatens coastal regions. 2-Extreme Weather Events: Higher ocean and air temperatures can create powerful storms, heat waves, droughts and wildfires. These extreme weather events are becoming more 3-Habitat & Wildlife frequent and intense.Loss: Sensitive habitats and wildlife species can be threatened as regional climates shift. Many species struggle to adapt quickly enough to the changes. 4-Melting Glacial Regions: Increased air temperatures cause accelerated melting of glaciers in regions like Greenland, the Arctic and Antarctic. This leads to rising seas and can alter ocean currents. 5-Ocean Acidification: Increased atmospheric CO2 leads to higher CO2 absorption in the oceans, resulting in acidification which threatens marine ecosystems. Solutions to Climate Change: 1-Transitioning Rapidly to Renewable Energy Sources: Phasing out fossil fuels for wind, solar and other renewables can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. 2-Reforestation and Forest Protection Efforts to Enhance Natural CO2 Capture: Planting trees and preventing deforestation enhances forests’ natural ability to capture and store carbon. 3-Architecture and Infrastructure Planning for Extreme Weather Resilience: Cities, real estate developers and urban planners should prepare for effects of climate Thank you for listening.
