Principal role of intermediaries is to bring buyers and sellers together. The task of intermediaries is to transform goods and services to a form which the consumers would want to purchase and provides the consumers the opportunity of avoiding the effort and cost of undertaking the product Where do tourist get information on destination? Travel Agent Private retailer that provides travel related services and advices to client on behalf of suppliers such as hotels, flights, car hire, or tour operators (packaged tour) Agents act as a broker, giving clients quick access to schedules, fares, and advices for clients about various destinations. Tour Operators An organization, company, or individual who buys individual travel components, separately from their suppliers and combines them into a package tour, which is sold with their own price tag to the public directly or through Travel Agent. Promote tours and trips that they plan and organize. They negotiate discounted travel, accommodation, meals, and sight-seeing, and then add a markup before advertising the package. Can either be working with tour agencies or work by themselves. Tour Wholesalers Supplies package components for tour operators which to be packaged into tours that are sold through travel agent to public Tour operator which involves in bulk packaging will be referred as Tour Wholesalers. Packaged Tours Also known as Travel Package, which includes: Accommodation Transportation Meals Attractions Activities TYPES OF DESTINATION CULTURAL Travel to observe, experience cultural, lifestyle of a location. They want to learn other people culture and practice Examples: – languages, – Celebrations – Arts – Handicrafts – Food – Music and Dance Historical/ Heritage To experience the places, folklore, artifacts, and activities represent stories of the past. EXAMPLES: museums heritage buildings Seven Wonders of the Ancient World Environmental Travel to enjoy a natural setting, scenery or wildlife Examples: Flora and Fauna Hiking Climbing SPORTS Tourism to experience a specialized sport or sporting event while staying apart from the tourists' usual environment. Example? Business Travel for business purposes, such as attending seminars, exhibitions, conferences. (M.I.C.E) Includes all travel arrangements Frontier Tourism Places that no one or very few people have ever seen. People are lured by travelling to remote and risky locations.
