Two substances, P and Q were made to react to reaction a third substance, P₂Q. according to the following 2P + Q P₂Q. Which of the following statement/s concerning this reaction is correct? (i) The product PQ shows the properties of substances P and Q (ii) The product will always have fixed composition (iii) The product so formed cannot be classified as a compound (iv) The product so formed is an element a) (i), (iii) and (iv) b) (i) and (iv) c) Only (ii) d) Only (iii) V. Sieve tubes and companion cells are present in: a) Xylem b) Phloem c) Cork d) Cambium VI. The connective tissue which provides elasticity to the skin: a) Ligament b) Tendon c) Adipose d) Areolar VII. Cell is discovered by: a) Robert Brown b) Robert Hooke c) John Mendel d) Charles Darwin Q2 Case based questions: I. Four cars A, B, C and D are moving on a leveled road. Their distance versus time graphs are shown in the given figure. a) What information does the slope of velocity v/s time graph provide? b) Which car is the slowest? II. Boiling occurs when the particles in a liquid state absorb enough energy to overcome the forces holding them together and begin to move apart to form a gas. A liquid is being heated, a graph is plotted between time and temperature in °C. Answer the questions based on graph. a) What does segment OA represent? b) Why does temperature remain constant at boiling point? III. The table given below shows number of grams of five different solids dissolving in 100 g of the solvents: water, alcohol, and chloroform (Each solid). Solvent Sugar (g) Salt (g) Iodine (g) Chalk (g) Urea (g) Water 210 40 0.8 0.0 100 Alcohol 0 0 24 0 16 Chloroform 0 0 3 0 0 a) Which solid dissolves best in water at 30 ºC? b) Which solid is most soluble in alcohol? IV. Bone is a solid, hard porous tissue. It forms the natural skeleton and gives the body its basic structure and supports the body. Its matrix is impregnated with phosphates and carbonates of calcium and magnesium which provides hardness to it. The matrix also contains ossein protein. The matrix is arranged in concentric rings which are called lamellae. Bone cells lie between the lamellae in fluid-filled spaces called lacunae. Bone cells are also called: a) Lacunae b) Osteocytes c) Neutrophils d) Erythrocytes V. Every cell has a membrane around it to keep its own contents separate from the external environment. Large and complex cells, including cells from multicellular organisms, need a lot of chemical activities to support their complicated structure and function. To keep these activities of different kinds, separate from each other, these cells use membrane-bound little structures within themselves. The cytoplasm is the jelly like fluid content inside the plasma membrane which contains many specialized cell organelles. Identify the statement which is true for cells. Statement 1 – Some cell organelles are visible only with an electron microscope. Statement 2 – Cytoplasm is jelly like fluid present inside the cell. Statement 3 – Cell organelles perform all the functions in a cell. Statement 4 – Every cell has a membrane around it to keep its own contents separate from the external environment. a) Statement 1 & 3 b) Statement 2 & 4 c) Statement 1 & 4 d) All statements are true Q3 Source based questions: I. Why does a coin placed on a card, drop into the tumbler when the card is rapidly flicked with the finger. II. In the following questions- II (a-c), a statement of Assertion (A) is followed by a statement of Reason (R). Rewrite the correct statement as- (i) Both Assertion and Reason are correct, and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion. (ii) Both Assertion and Reason are correct, and Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion. (iii) Assertion is true but Reason is false. (iv) Both Assertion and Reason are false. a) Assertion-A body can have acceleration even if its velocity is zero at a given instance. Reason-A body is momentarily at rest when it reverses its direction of motion. b) Assertion- People sprinkle water on roof or open ground in hot sunny days. Reason- The large latent heat of vaporization of water helps to cool the hot surface of roof. c) Assertion - When a hot concentrated sugar syrup is kept in the freezer, on cooling, the crystals of sugar get separated. Reason -Chemical change is irreversible. III. Differentiate between fog and smoke based on dispersed phase and dispersion medium. IV. Identify the given diagram and state the location for the same. Error! V. Label the part ‘Y’ in the given diagram. SECTION B Answer the following questions: Q4 I. What would be acceleration of a body if its velocity-time graph is a line parallel to time axis? II. A person standing at A goes to B by following any of the paths 1,2 or 3. Which path can we measure to find the average velocity? III. Name the physical quantity which is measured by rate of momentum. IV. State the second law of motion. Q5 I. Deepak’s friend visited his house in Mumbai, and he was surprised to see air conditioners installed in all his rooms. His friend advised Deepak to use water coolers and save electricity. On this Deepak told, him that the water-cooler is not at all effective in coastal areas. Why are water-coolers not effective in coastal areas? II. Comment on the following statement- Sponge though compressible is a solid. Q6 I. In the following question two statements are given - Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Select the correct answer from the options (a-d) given below.
