Test \# 2 Study Guide Chemistry Class 1. Chemistry: the Branch of science that deals with the study of the composition, structure and properties of matter. 2. Physical chemistry: Branch of chemistry foundational to the other areas of chemistry. 3. Biochemistry: Chemistry of living things. 4. Three main steps of scientific method: Observing, hypothesizing, experimenting. 5. Accuracy: closeness of a measurement to the exact value. 6. Precision: consistency or reproducibility of a measurement. 7. Kinetic energy: energy of motion. 8. Know how to differentiate between the three states of matter, solid, gas or liquid. 9. Gas: is the state of matter upon which particles possess the greatest kinetic energy. 10. Hydrogen: is the most abundant element in the universe 11. Oxygen: is the most abundant element in the earths crust. 12. What are Dalton's two theories? Law of definite composition and Law of multiple proportions. 13. List the four observations that suggest that a chemical change has occurred: Formation of gas, formation of a precipitate, liberation of energy. 14. Isotopes: atoms of the same element that differ in mass number. 15. What is the characteristic of an atom that determines its identity as a particular element? Number of protons in the nucleus. 16. 17. What unit is used to to measure atomic mass? Atomic mass unit. 18. Ion: atom or molecule that is electrically charged because it has different number of electrons than protons. 19. Cation: ion positively charged because it has fewer electrons. 20. Anions: ion negatively charged. Study periodic table and its groups ![Checkout](media/image2.png) Practice Convertions. Convert Temperature Conversion Worksheet ![](media/image4.jpeg)
