This book has been compiled to meet the growing demands and requirements of the SSC aspirants appearing not only for SSC exams but also for Bank and other Competitive exams conducted by Central and State Governments. Although this book has been compiled with the prime intension of providing all the Previous Years Vocabularies asked in SSC Exams till date but I thought it would be injustice not to include some other important English vocabulary words which are frequently used and asked. Therefore, this book has been compiled comprehensively, so that students can use it even for other exams and most importantly for gradual self-learning and improvement of English Vocabulary. I welcome comments and suggestions from the readers of this book. All the Best. - Nikhil Gupta +2:7286(7+,6%22. First of all, I want you to know that it is not expected to learn each and every vocabulary given in this book, do not try to mug up all the words without thinking. This book has been divided into several parts, which serves distinct objectives. Therefore, you need to refer and learn vocabulary according to your needs and requirements of the examination. One of the main objectives of compiling this book was to provide all Vocabularies asked by SSC till the very date for upcoming SSC Exams. Hence, I have added all the new vocabulary asked in SSC exams till July 2019. SECTION - I: This is very essential part, as an SSC aspirant, you need to cover this part compulsorily. Almost 75 to 85 % questions asked in SSC exams are from this part only. Recently in 2019 SSC Conducted CPO, GD Constable, SSC CGL 2018 (Tier – 1), SSC CHSL 2018 (Tier-1) etc. exams and I found that more than 80% of the OWS were repeated and had been asked in previous years. x Chapters A1, B1… till E1 gives you MASTER LIST of all Vocabularies asked in SSC exams in alphabetical manner. x Chapters A2, B2… till E2 is for last minute revision, which includes most repeated vocabularies and have been asked repetitively in SSC exams. This list has been sorted based on number of times a vocabulary has been appeared. x Chapters A3-A11, B3-B11…. Till E3-E11 Contains those Vocabularies which have been asked in recent SSC Exams. These words have also been included in first chapters (A1, B1 etc), but for quick revision I have provided this list in exam wise manner. x Chapters A12, B12… till E12 is practice section and includes 30 or 20 short MCQs Practice Sets in each topic to gauge your learning. This is mandatory part for SSC aspirants and includes recently asked MCQs of SSC. Symbols used: SN., SNo. SR. No. etc. are denoting Serial Number. #A: Number of times a word has been appeared / asked in SSC Exams // : Alternate Phrases used to ask same word substitution / : used with either of the words. SECTION - II: This section contains vocabularies which are frequently used in The Hindu Newspaper. It is often seen that many of these vocabularies appear in one exam or other. Moreover, it contains some legal or technical words which you are expected to know as an educated person. A good knowledge of this part not only increases your vocabulary but it will help you to read faster. Yes, you will read the Hindu much faster and this will serve a boon for your Reading Comprehension (Passage, Cloze Tests etc) part of Competitive exams. SECTION - III: This section contains a list of special technical vocabularies which are frequently asked in SSC and other competitive examinations. These terms are technical and you need to pay little attention in this section. It may be noted that though some of the vocabularies are more frequent, some are rarely asked. It is advisable to use selective reading if you have time constraint. Do not attempt to mug up all the vocabulary (in one go). APPENDIX: This part is very useful to understand etymology. It is known that once you learn the meaning of a root word it would be very easy to learn similar words and even to guess the words in exam when you have not studied it. This part is again for self-learning and must be gradual. Do not try to cover this part completely for Tier 1 of CGL 2019, though your gradual learning will help you in Tier 2. Please Note that this part is available as an additional resource and available as only soft copy. 3$57$ ůĂĐŬŬŽĨŶŐůŝƐŚsŽĐĂďƵůĂƌLJ͗ůůKt^ĂƐŬĞĚŝŶ^^džĂŵƐ SN Wordȱ(#R) Meaning Hindi KhkDìYSdk_Dì 1 Abaft Inȱorȱbehindȱtheȱsternȱofȱaȱship B_ 2 Abandonȱ(2) Toȱleave JxUtWk 3 Abase Causeȱtoȱfeelȱshame 4Y]klWSD_Wk 4 Abashed Feelingȱorȱcausedȱtoȱfeelȱuneasyȱandȱself G[_k^khò5 5 Abatement Lesseningȱofȱsomething D]m Line of defence consisting of a barrier of felled or live trees with branches 6 Abatis [k (sharpenedȱorȱwithȱbarbedȱwireȱentwined)ȱtowardȱtheȱenemy 7 Abattoirȱ(2) Aȱplaceȱwhereȱanimalsȱareȱslaughteredȱforȱconsumptionȱasȱfood Dgk7EkWk 8 Abbot Theȱsuperiorȱofȱaȱmonastery ]OFŁn 9 Abdicateȱ(5) Toȱgiveȱupȱtheȱpositionȱofȱbeingȱkingȱ/ȱqueenȱ//ȱtoȱgiveȱupȱtheȱthrone Â^kFWk 10 Abductȱ(3) Toȱtakeȱsomebodyȱawayȱillegally,ȱespeciallyȱusingȱforce 4Yh_RD_Wk A fact, an action or a way of behaving that is not usual, a disorder in 11 Aberrationȱ(2) gk]kÆ^gtldIaW one’sȱmentalȱstate 12 Abhor Toȱhate,ȱtoȱdetest GpRkD_Wk 13 Abject Terribleȱandȱwithoutȱhope hSxÂgkh, U^Wm^ g]TŎDt Y±]¤\tU\kd Demo File (qmaths.in) 14 Ableism Discriminationȱinȱfavourȱofȱtheȱable 15 Ablution Theȱritualȱwashingȱofȱaȱpriestȇsȱhandsȱorȱofȱsacredȱvessels eĦn mD_R 16 Aboard Onȱorȱontoȱaȱshipȱ/ȱplaneȱ/ȱbusȱorȱtrain gdk_ 17 Abode Aȱplaceȱwhereȱsomebodyȱlives lWdkg 18 Abolishȱ(5) Formallyȱputȱanȱendȱtoȱaȱsystem,ȱpractice,ȱorȱinstitution g]kĮD_Wk 19 Abominable Unequivocallyȱdetestable lGWyWk 20 Aborigines Theȱoriginalȱinhabitantsȱofȱaȱcountry ]a n lWdkgm To end or cause to end before something has been completed because it is 21 Abort 4V_o kJxUtWk likelyȱtoȱfail 22 Abortionist Aȱpersonȱ(whoȱshouldȱbeȱaȱdoctor)ȱwhoȱterminatesȱpregnancies F\ªYkSD_Wtdkak 23 Abridge Toȱshortenȱaȱpieceȱofȱwritingȱwithoutȱlosingȱtheȱsense g2l±ĮmD_R Abridgementȱ 24 Aȱshortenedȱversionȱofȱaȱwrittenȱwork g2l±ĮmD_R (2) 25 Abrogate Toȱofficiallyȱendȱaȱlaw,ȱanȱagreement,ȱetc. 4l\lWftVD_Wk 26 Abscondersȱ(2) Aȱfugitiveȱwhoȱrunsȱawayȱandȱhidesȱtoȱavoidȱarrestȱ/ȱprosecution Z_k_ 27 Absenteeism Habitualȱabsenceȱfromȱwork Dk^ªgt4WYn lÖTShxWk 28 Absoluteȱ(3) Oneȱwhoȱisȱperfectȱ/ȱcompleteȱ/ȱfreeȱfromȱimperfection YRo ª 29 Abstainȱ(2) Toȱchooseȱnotȱtoȱuseȱaȱvote,ȱeitherȱinȱfavourȱofȱ/ȱagainstȱsomething [IWk 30 Abstruseȱ(2) Difficultȱtoȱcomprehendȱobscure KlNa 31 Absurd Completelyȱridiculous [tSD n k ůĂĐŬŬŽĨŶŐůŝƐŚsŽĐĂďƵůĂƌLJ͗ůůKt^ĂƐŬĞĚŝŶ^^džĂŵƐ SN Wordȱ(#R) Meaning Hindi 32 Abundance Aȱlargeȱquantityȱthatȱisȱmoreȱthanȱenough ÿI_n Sk ldĬkWlDÖ]Dk 33 Academicism Orthodoxyȱofȱaȱscholasticȱvariety łl dkUm 34 Academy Aȱschoolȱ/ȱcollegeȱforȱspecialȱtraining ÿle±Rekak 35 Accoladeȱ(2) Praiseȱ/ȱanȱawardȱforȱanȱachievementȱthatȱpeopleȱadmire gÌ]kW, ÿeg2 k 36 Accompliceȱ(5) Aȱpersonȱwhoȱhelpsȱanotherȱtoȱcommitȱaȱcrimeȱ/ȱtoȱdoȱsomethingȱwrong gh-4Y_kVm 37 Accordȱ(2) Sympatheticȱcompatibility 4Wł n YhxWk 38 Accountability Responsibilityȱtoȱsomeoneȱorȱforȱsomeȱactivity Kdk[Uthm 39 Accountantȱ(2) Aȱpersonȱwhoseȱprofessionȱisȱtoȱkeepȱaccounts ]Wn m] 40 Accredit Giveȱcreditȱfor ]kÆ^SkUtWk 41 Accretive Characterizedȱbyȱgradualȱgrowthȱorȱincrease ghdVê 42 Accrual Theȱactȱofȱaccumulating [ xS_m A person who says that somebody has done something wrong / is guilty 43 Accuser 4l\^xĉk ofȱsomething 44 Acerb Harshȱorȱcorrosiveȱinȱtone Dguak 45 Acetic Relatingȱtoȱorȱcontainingȱaceticȱacid EĘk Demo File (qmaths.in) 46 Acoustics Studyȱofȱsound ÅdlW-ld²kW 47 Acquaint Toȱmakeȱsomebodyȱ/ȱyourselfȱfamiliarȱwithȱ/ȱawareȱofȱsomething Yå_lIS 48 Acquiesce Toȱacceptȱsomethingȱwithoutȱarguing gS2 Ķn hxWk To decide and state officially in court that somebody is not guilty of a 49 Acquitȱ(3) [_mD_Wk crime 50 Acquittalȱ(2) Anȱofficialȱdecisionȱinȱcourtȱthatȱaȱpersonȱisȱnotȱguiltyȱofȱaȱcrime Uxf]ln ĉ 51 Acrid Harshȱorȱcorrosiveȱinȱtone SmEk 52 Acrimonious Angryȱandȱfullȱofȱstrongȱbitterȱfeelingsȱandȱwords 8ú An entertainer who performs difficult acts such as balancing on high 53 Acrobatȱ(2) ropes (at a circus) // an athlete who performs acts that need skill, agility Dak[kK andȱcoordination A word formed from the first letters of the words that make up the name 54 Acronymȱ(3) Yå_dRêeÊU ofȱsomething 55 Acrophobiaȱ(3) Fearȱofȱgreatȱheights 91Ik7DkP_ A poem / other piece of writing in which particular letters in each line, usually first letters, can be read downwards to form a word / words 56 Acrostic 4±_[ĦDldSk spelling out e.g. candy: crunchy and chewy awesome nice and sweet delightfulȱandȱdeliciousȱyummyȱtreat.
