English Vocabulary Root Words ……………...…………..………………….……341 (1091 Roots with 4338 example words with Meaning and definitions) PART (A + B + C + E) = 10938 Words PREFACE I have great pleasure in placing this book before the aspirants of Staff Selection Commission’s Combined Graduate Level, Combined Higher Secondary Level, Central Police Organization and other exams. This book has been compiled to meet the continuous demands and requirements of the aspirants appearing not only for SSC exams but also for Bank and other Competitive exams conducted by Central and State Governments. Although this book has been compiled with the prime intension of providing all the Previous Years One Words Substitutions asked in SSC Exams till date but I thought it would be injustice not to include some other important English vocabulary words which are frequently used and asked. Therefore. this book has rather been compiled a bit more comprehensive, so that students can use it even for other exams and most importantly for gradual self-learning and improvement of English Vocabulary. I welcome comments and suggestions from the readers of this book. All the Best. Nikhil Gupta HOW TO USE THIS BOOK? First of all, I want you to know that it is not expected to learn each and every words / vocabulary given in this book, so try not to mug up all the words without thinking. This book has been divided into several parts, which serves distinct objectives. Therefore, you need to refer and learn vocabulary according to your needs and the requirement of the examination. One of the main objective of compiling this book was to provide all One Word Substitutions asked by SSC till the very date for SSC CGL / CHSL 2018. Hence, I have added all the new vocabulary asked in SSC exams even conducted in the years 2019 (SSC CPO 2018 Exam, SSC GD Constable 2018, SSC Stenographer 2018, SSC Selection Posts VI, and SSC JHT 2018). PART A: This is very essential part, as an SSC aspirant, you need to cover this part compulsorily. Almost 75% plus questions asked in SSC exams are from this part only. Recently SSC Conducted CPO, GD Constable etc exams and I found that more than 75% of the OWS were repeated and had been asked in previous years. Part A2 gives you almost 3500 OWS, sorted alphabetically. The last column #A indicated the number of times this word has been asked / used in SSC Exams. Part A1 is for last minute revision, which includes Top 500 OWS which have been asked repetitively in SSC exams. This list has been sorted based on number of times the vocabulary has been appeared. Symbols used: SN., SNo. SR. No. etc are denoting Serial Number. #A: Number of times a word has been appeared / asked in SSC Exams // : Alternate Phrases used to ask same word substitution / : used with either of the words. PART B: This section contain vocabulary frequently used in The Hindu Newspaper. It is often seen that many of these vocabularies appear in one exam or other. Moreover, it contains some of the legal or technical words that you are expected to know as an educated person. A great knowledge of this part not only increases your vocabulary but it will help you to read faster. Yes, you will read the Hindu much faster and this will serve a boon for your Reading Comprehension (Passage, Cloze Tests etc) part of Competitive exams. PART C: This section contains a list of special technical vocabularies which are frequently asked in SSC and other competitive examinations. These terms are technical and you need to pay little attention in this section. It may be noted that though some of the vocabularies are more frequent, while some are rarely used. It is advisable to use selective reading, if you have time constraint. Do not attempt to mug up all the vocabulary (in one go). PART D: This is practice section and includes 50 short tests to gauge your learning. This is mandatory part for SSC aspirants and includes recently asked One Word Substitution MCQs of SSC. PART E: This is an appendix and is very useful to understand etymology. Once you learn the meaning of a root word it would be very easy to learn similar words and even to guess the words in exam when you have not studied it. This part is again for self-learning which must be gradual. Do not try to cover this part completely for Tier 1 of CGL 2018, though your gradual learning will help you in Tier 2 and many other exams. This page is dedicated to my beloved SSC Aspirants. 500 Most Repetitive SSC One Word Substitutions SNo. Word Meaning Hindi #A 1 Infallible that never fails // always doing what it is अचकू 14 supposed
