MOST ABUNDANT ELEMENT IN HUMAN BODY ACCORDING TO STEVEN D. TOWNSEND, AN ORGANIC CHEMIST. AT VANDERVILT UNIVERSITY, NEARLY 97% OF OUR BODY’S WEIGHT IS MADE UP FOUR ELEMENTS. FOUR ELEMENTS NAMELY, OXYGEN, CARBON, HYDROGEN, AND NITROGEN, ARE CONSIDERED THE MOST ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS FOUND IN OUR BODY. 4. NITROGEN NITROGEN NITROGEN (3.2%) One of the most abundant element in human body is nitrogen, comprising 3.2% of body mass. Nitrogen is a principal compound in amino acids and helps in protein synthesis. Human body gets nitrogen by consuming plant and animal products. 3. HYDROGEN HYDROGEN HYDROGEN (9.5%) 9.5% of human body mass is composed of hydrogen. 2 Hydrogen is present in human body in a form of water together with oxygen. 3 It is an element which is present in all the fluids of the human body which allows the toxins and waste to be transported and eliminated. 2. CARBON CARBON CARBON (18%) Human body mass is made up of approximately 18% of carbon. Carbon is the basic building block required to form proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. Breaking carbon bonds in carbohydrates and proteins is or primary source of energy. 1. OXYGEN OXYGEN Oxygen is the most abundant element in human body that covers 65% of the body mass. Oxygen helps organism grow, reproduce and turn food into energy. OXYGEN (65%) It allows the systematic functioning of the body organs such as lungs and heart because every organ in the body requires oxygen for its functioning.
