Considerations in Special Populations Children Acetaminophen or ibuprofen may be used for relief of aches and pains or fever >38.5°C. Avoid ASA due to its association with Reye syndrome. See Fever for more information on the management of fever. Nonprescription cough and cold remedies should be avoided in children 23–40 kg: 60 mg BID PO × 5 days >40 kg: 75 mg BID PO × 5 days Nausea, vomiting. Safety in pregnancy not established but currently recommended as first-line agent in pregnant women. For dose adjustments in renal impairment, consult the Compendium of Therapeutic Choices: Influenza.
