A stressor is any internal or external factor that triggers the body to respond in fight, flight or freeze mode. There are positive and negative stressors. The positive ones like a first date or a competition, can be exciting, are usually short-term and can improve our performance. However, negative stressors can cause anxiety, they can be perceived as beyond our coping ability, and they affect our performance. They can be long term too. Sources of stress include the environment, internal thoughts, physiological eg illness, accident etc. Social stressors are based on societal roles one is expected to play. Some effects of stress are: - - - - - - - - We can alleviate stress by meditating, taking deep breaths, and focusing on a comforting word or action that helps us to cope. **Budgeting tips** 1. 2. 3. 4. **Career** is a way of living that earns income, while a **job** is a regular activity one does to receive payment. Career can be a series of jobs in a related field (eg. media). Make SMART goals regarding my career, financial plans, personal development, and everything really. To develop a career, it's important to know yourself (values, strengths, ambitions), explore your options (career options, research etc), get focused (decision making, set goals) and take action (job search, gain experience). **Harassment** is any unwelcome behavior or threat that is targeted at another person to induce physical, sexual or psychological harm. It includes gender-based violence. GBV is any violence targeted at people based on their gender eg. sexual assault, rape, domestic violence, female genital mutilation etc. **Sexual assault** is the penetration or attempted penetration of a person's body by a body part or object without the person's consent. A campaign to combat GBV is Orange the World, running from Nov 25 to Dec 10. We can find help for situations of sexual harassment and GBV at the judicial affairs, counseling, student affairs, security and the clinic hotline. **[HEALTH]** This is a state of complete physical, mental, social and spiritual wellness which allows one to live a fulfilling life, beyond the absence of disease and injury. **Public health** is the art and science of preventing illness, enhancing life expectancy and promoting good quality of life by helping society and individuals to make informed decisions concerning their wellbeing. An **epidemic** is the spread of disease to a large number of people within a given area, while a **pandemic** is the spread of an infectious disease across a larger area ie. continents or worldwide. Long term use of phones can have adverse effects on our health. It can lead to altered cognitive function, low sperm count in men, increased blood pressure, headaches and other symptoms. Drug abuse is the overuse or misuse of a drug.
