Advantages and Challenges of Being an Entrepreneur Benefits of Being an Entrepreneur The owner decides what should be done and how the business should operate rather than follow the instructions of other people. You can be creative and decide how activities should be done. Potential income is unlimited if you are prepared to work hard and grab opportunities when they surface. You can work independently and do not have to report to anyone — you are your own boss. Benefits of Being an Entrepreneur You can take the initiative because you do not have to ask permission from anyone. You control the work environment and in this wa y promote productivity. Sometimes, we work in an environment which is suitable for other persons who take the decisions and we are not happy. This can decrease productivity. You give orders and decide what should be done, how it should be done and when. Challenges of Being an Entrepreneur From time to time, you have to work long, irregular hours to be successful, especially in the beginning. Your responsibilities are broad because you as the owner sometimes have to take all decisions or give guidance. In many cases, income is not stable or guaranteed, and this can cause stress and hamper productivity, creativity, etc. Challenges of Being an Entrepreneur There are no fringe benefits as in the case of a paid job like a car allowance, pension fund, or a medical aid scheme. You have to pay these yourself.. You are always involved in business finance. Especially when it comes to big spending, you have to give authorization or guidance. You have no time to do personal work, especially when you work long hours to ensure success. Challenges of Being an Entrepreneur You have an uncertain future because the economy can easily go down and affect the business negatively.
