HOFFMAN ESTATES FIRE DEPARTMENT STANDARD OPERATING GUIDELINES SOG Category & Identification Number: EFFECTIVE DATE: ADMINISTRATIVE – 016 January 1, 2022 NIMS COMPLIANT SOG Title: Release of Fire Department Records Revision: 2 APPROVED BY: NUMBER OF PAGES: Re-evaluation Date: Alan Wax January 1, 2024 Fire Chief 2 PURPOSE POLICY This guideline will follow 5 ILCS 140 “Freedom of Information Act.” PROCEDURE In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act, July 1, 1984, the Village has established a guideline for requesting information and public records: A. Records pertaining to Fire Department operations will be made available for inspection and copying only at the Village Hall unless the records are specifically exempt under the Freedom of Information Act (list of exemptions in Village Clerk's office). B. All requests for information must be submitted by the individual requesting said information on the Freedom of Information Request form (available at the Village Hall, Fire Department, office). C. Each request will be complied with or denied within five (5) business days after its receipt. The (5) business day time limit may be extended up to (10) business days – 5 ILCS 140 Section 3d. D. Members of the Fire Department will inform persons requesting information and/or records of this guideline and direct them accordingly. E. The issuance of information and/or records in violation of the Freedom of Information guideline could result in disciplinary actions under the Hoffman Estates Fire Department Rules and Regulations, Dissemination of Information.
