Hoffman Estates Fire Department Standard Operating Guideline
- Effective date of the SOP is January 1, 2022, and it will be re-evaluated on January 1, 2024
- The policy follows the 5 ILCS 140 “Freedom of Information Act”
Purpose of the Guideline
- To establish a procedure for requesting information and public records from the Fire Department
Procedure for Requesting Information and Records
- Records pertaining to Fire Department operations are available for inspection and copying at the Village Hall
- Certain records are exempt from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act (exemptions listed in the Village Clerk's office)
- Requests for information must be submitted on the Freedom of Information Request form, available at the Village Hall and Fire Department office
- Each request will be complied with or denied within 5 business days after receipt
- The 5-day time limit may be extended up to 10 business days under 5 ILCS 140 Section 3d
- Fire Department members will inform requestors of this guideline and direct them accordingly
- Violation of the Freedom of Information guideline may result in disciplinary actions under the Hoffman Estates Fire Department Rules and Regulations, Dissemination of Information
