Factors aiecing Dody temperature Age: Infants and young children normally have a higher body tenmperature than adults becáuse their heat regulating mechanisms are not yet fully established. Older people usually have a lower body temperature. "Emotional states: Physical or emotional stress, such as anxiety, may rise bodytemperature. Exercise: Exercise can cause increase of body temperature especially prolonged and strenuous exercises. "Hormonal influences: Women generally have greater variations in body temperature than men due to hormonal changes during ovulation and menstruation. "Diurnal variations Body temperature normally changes 0.5-1 Co over 24 hours. The temperature is usually lowest between 1and 4 AM and peaks between 4 and 7 PM. Environment Environmental temperature extremes can raise or lower body temperature. Ingestion of hot/cold liquids Drinking hot or cold liquids can cause slight variations in actual oral temperature readings. So temperature should be measured after 20 min after drinking cold or hot fluids. Smoking Smoking cigarettes may increase body temperature measurements.
