Bridgeport Fire Department Standard Operating Procedures #504 I. RESCUE COMPANY OPERATIONS AT STRUCTURAL FIRES 3/8/01 PURPOSE A. To provide general guidance to rescue company personnel during structural firefighting operations. II. RESPONSIBILITIES A. Assistant Chief: 1. Will utilize the rescue company, as they deem necessary. B. Company Officer: 1. Manages and directs rescue team operations with the accountability and safety of all company members from the beginning to the end of the incident. C. Firefighters: 1. Will maintain lines of communication with the company officer throughout the incident. III. DEFINITIONS: None IV. PROCEDURES A. Upon arrival at a structure fire: 1. The rescue company will split into two teams. 2. The company officer, one firefighter, and the pumper engineer will be one team. a) They will be responsible for forcible entry on the fire floor (if not already done). b) They will be responsible for primary search and rescue operations on the fire floor. (1) Officer: (a) Tools: Thermal Imaging Camera (b) Radio Designation: Rescue 5 (c) Position: At the door to the fire floor. (d) Duties: Forcible entry if necessary and coordinate primary search and rescue operations on the fire floor. (2) Firefighter: (Normally Firefighter #5) (a) Tools: Irons (b) Radio Designation: Rescue 5 Charlie (c) Position: At the door to the fire floor (d) Duties: Forcible entry, if necessary, and conduct primary search and rescue operations at the direction of the company officer. Pumper Engineer: (a) Tools: Hook (b) Radio Designation: Rescue 5 Chauffer (c) Position: On the fire floor (d) Duties: Conduct primary search and rescue operations on the fire floor with the thermal imaging camera. 2. The second team will consist of the remaining two firefighters. a) The remaining two firefighters will team-up and are responsible for conducting primary search and rescue operations on the floor above the fire. (1) Firefighter (Normally Firefighter #3): (a) Tools: Irons and Thermal Imaging Camera (b) Radio Designation: Rescue 5 Alpha (c) Position: Floor above the fire (d) Duties: Forcible entry if necessary, and primary search and rescue operations, with the #2 firefighter, on the floor above the fire. (2) Firefighter (Normally Firefighter #4): (a) Tools: 6' hook, and fire extinguisher. (b) Radio Designation: Rescue 5 Bravo (c) Position: Floor above the fire. (d) Duties: Team-up with the #1 firefighter for primary search and rescue operations on the floor above the fire. IV.
