The IMRAD Format To present the research and discuss the methods for gathering research. The IMRAD Format ntroductio Abstrac Titl t e naterials and Author Methods Conclusions s esult s References Keywor n ds d iscussio Appendices Acknowledgment n Four basic questions: Introduction: Why did you do the study? Methods: What did you do? Results: What did you find? and... Discussion: What do your findings mean? How do you advance your field? Goal of using the IMRaD format is to present facts objectively, demonstrating a genuine interest, and care in developing new understanding about a topic. Title first thing will see upon receiving your research paper It forms a view on what the journal editor or reviewer should expect in your research paper the only aspect that will be freely available to readers through search engines or indexing databases write a clear, persuasive title that leads readers to know more about your research. Steps to create a perfect title for your paper Step 1: Ask yourself a few questions about your research paper What does your paper seek to answer and what does it accomplish. Try to answer these questions as briefly as possible, with one or two sentences each. You can create these questions by going through each section of the paper and finding the MOST relevant information. Step 2: Identify and list keywords and phrases from these responses Step 3: Use these keywords to create one long sentence. Step 4: Create a working are not central to the study or that researchers would most likely not use in a database search. Step 5: Eliminate all extra words or phrases to meet a suitable word count; place keywords at the beginning and end of your title. Introduction is the statement of the problem. The statement of the problem is used in research work as a claim that outlines the problem addressed by a study. A good research problem should address an existing gap in knowledge in the field and lead to future research. Characteristics of a good research problem 1. It should address a gap in knowledge. 2. It should be significant enough to contribute to the existing body of research. 3. It should lead to further research. 4. The problem should render itself to investigation through the collection of data. 5. It should be of interest to the researcher and suit his/her skills, time, and resources. 6. The approach towards solving the problem should be ethical. 4 key aspects: Context, Issue, Relevance, and Objective (Context) After exercising, the human body is depleted of hydration and electrolytes from sweating. (Issue) The person then needs to decide how best to rehydrate the bodyand replenish the lost electrolytes. (Relevance) Not all beverages are equally beneficial after exercise. The coach must decide what drink to offer volleyball players during a game or practice. (Objective) In this experiment, we will investigate the electrolyte content found in standard sports drink compared to what is found in plain coconut water. Scope and Limitations Scope of a study explains the extent to which the research area will be explored in the work and specifies the parameters within which the study will be operating. contains the explanation of what information or subject is being analyzed. It is followed by an explanation of the limitation of the research. Research usually limited in scope by sample size, time and geographic area. Delimitations the description of the scope of study are the characteristics that limit the scope and describe the boundaries of the study. It will explain why definite aspects of a subject were chosen and why others were excluded. It also mention the research method used as well as the certain theories that applied to the data. ACTIVITY: Direction: Given the situations below, which statement of the problem is a good one or not. Justify your answer. 1. The teacher wants your classmate to make a biodegradable plastic from squid pen. Although he doesn’t like the topic, he has no choice but to follow the suggestion of his teacher. 2.
