DEFINITIONS POLICY A copy of the TB Control Plan shall be accessible and readily available to each employee during normal working hours at the Department. RESPONSIBILITY Compliance with the guidelines is ultimately the responsibility of the Department. However, each employee has a responsibility to understand the rationale for and adhere to the guidelines. DEFINITION Tuberculosis is an acute or chronic infection caused by Mycobacterium Tuberculosis (TB). It is spread by the airborne route (droplet nuclei) and can spread throughout a room or building carried on air currents. Infection occurs when a susceptible person inhales these droplet nuclei containing T.B. bacilli. In most individuals, the immune system limits the multiplication and spread of the bacilli in the body. However, some newly infected persons (
