Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs * 0 Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Maslow (1943, 1954) stated that people are motivated to achieve certain needs & that some needs take precedence over others. Our most basic need is for physical survival, & this will be the first thing that motivates our behavior. Once that level is fulfilled the next level up is what motivates us, & so on. 5. Cognitive 1. Physiological needs These are biological requirements for human survival. 6 Aesthetic. E.g.: air, food, drink, shelter, clothing, warmth, sleep. -sentiasa nah helihatan If these needs are not satisfied the human body cannot function optimally. cantile 2. Safety needs/Security needs Once an individual’s physiological needs are satisfied, the needs for security & safety become salient. People want to experience order, predictability and control in their lives. These needs can be fulfilled by the family and society (e.g. police, schools, business and medical care). E.g.: emotional security, financial security (e.g. employment, social welfare), law & order, freedom from fear, social stability, property, health & wellbeing (e.g. safety against accidents & injury). 3. Love and belongingness needs After physiological & safety needs have been fulfilled, the third level of human needs is social & involves feelings of belongingness. Belongingness refers to a human emotional need for interpersonal relationships, affiliating, connectedness, & being part of a group. E.g.: friendship, intimacy, trust, acceptance, receiving & giving affection, & love.. self 7 actualization 8. selftranscedence. 0 Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs 4. Esteem needs The 4th level in Maslow’s hierarchy & include self-worth, accomplishment & respect. Maslow classified esteem needs into two categories: (i) esteem for oneself (dignity, achievement, mastery, independence) (ii) the desire for reputation or respect from others (e.g., status, prestige). Maslow indicated that the need for respect or reputation is most important for children & adolescents & precedes real self-esteem or dignity. 5. Self-actualization needs This refers to our need to realize all our potential, to become everything that we can be. The need to improve ourselves, learn, develop, & grow our skills & reach our full potential. E.g.: To study, read, participate in activities, work on & achieve goals. 6. Self-trancendence Loading… The highest level in Maslow's hierarchy, self-transcendence involves a fundamental shift in one’s life attitude, from an egotistic focus to caring for others.” Being involved with other people or community when possible. E.g.: To be dedicated to helping others with goals you have already achieved. 0 ⑮Motivational Seminar vs Nonmotivational Seminar i MOTIVATION 0 People primarily lose motivation because of three factors:. Loss of confidence. Loss of focus. Loss of direction “You Learn More From Failure Than From Success. Don’t Let It Stop You. Failure Builds Character.” GOLDEN RULES THAT CAN BE FOLLOWED It is the inner desire to want something that keeps one motivated & not an external factor. One must set goals that are pleasurable, rather than those set-in fear. Creatively visualize the goal. Reinforce the set goal with positive thought & action. Make the achievement of the goal a high priority task. 0 1: Self-Efficacy “There Are No Limits To What You Can Accomplish, Except The Limits Self-efficacy/self-confidence can be You Place On Your Own Thinking.” defined as your personal belief that you can perform the behavior or achieving your goal. One of the most important factors contributing to success in life. 2: Family & Friend Support Whatever the compromise, having these people support your goals will make the whole process much less stressful and easier to complete. Develop An ‘Attitude Of Gratitude’. Say Thank You To Everyone You Meet For Everything They Do For You. 0 3: A Positive Attitude Having a positive attitude will help you stay motivated & committed. 4: Intrinsic/Internal Motivation Intrinsic motivation is the type where you are performing the action based strictly on the fact that you love doing it and find a personal satisfaction from doing it. Extrinsic motivation tends to decrease our desire to perform the action since we almost begin to view it as something that must be done, rather than something we are doing on our own will. 0 5: An Action Plan An action plan is a detailed plan outlining actions needed to reach one or more goals. Alternatively, it can be defined as a "sequence of steps that must be taken, or activities that must be performed well, for a strategy to succeed".. 0 6: Organizational Skills Organizational skills are the abilities that let you stay focused on different tasks, & use your time, energy, strength, mental capacity, physical space, etc. effectively & efficiently in order to achieve the desired goal/outcome. In the other words, organizational skills are competencies you can use to establish structure & order in your daily life. They can help you work more efficiently & effectively, as a result, increase productivity & performance. “Leaders Think And Talk About The Solutions. Followers Think And Talk About The Problems.” 0 7: A Reward System By setting small rewards after each step in your plan, you will give yourself something to look forward to and keep yourself motivated to keep pushing onward. 8: A Role Model A role model is someone who inspires you so much that you want to exceed his//her achievements. By having someone who you look up to, whether it is for their values, their hard work, or how they look, you will be providing yourself with a measure on which to measure yourself with. Who is your role model? 0 9: Knowledge If you gain knowledge, you have the power that stays throughout your life. If you want to be a real winner in your life, you need to gain an excess amount of knowledge. In any stressful situation, people with knowledge have the power to deal with the situation. “Knowing Is Not Enough; We Must Apply. Wishing Is Not Enough; We Must Do.” 10: Other Hobbies And Interests The final factor that is important in your success is having outside hobbies & interests. Having outside interests will help keep your mind fresh & keep you looking forward. 0 0 “Let bygones be bygones.” - forget about unpleasant things that have happened in the past. “Avoid toxic people.” “The less you respond to negative people, the more powerful your life will become.” “You cannot change the people around you, but you can change the people you choose to be around.” “People inspire you @ they drain you. Pick them wisely.” “Enjoy & appreciate every single moment in your life.” "Always remember that your present situation is not your final destination. The best is yet to come." 0 Take Home Messages Shortcuts to success PLAN while others are playing. STUDY while others are sleeping. DECIDE while others are delaying.
