SHERIFF’S POLICY MANUAL 3.22 IDENTIFICATION CARDS: 3.22.1 Authorized Badges/Identification: A. All employees and non-employees (volunteer, vendors or contractors) hired by the Broward Sheriff’s Office will be issued an identification (ID) card that will bear the employee’s or non-employee’s name, photograph and classification. B. All persons appointed deputy sheriffs, either in the Department of Law Enforcement or the Department of Detention will be issued identification cards that will bear the employee’s name and photograph identifying them as a deputy sheriff. C. All certified employees working in the Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency services will be issued identification cards identifying their rank and classification as a Broward Sheriff’s Office Employee in the Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services. D. Law enforcement and cross-certified deputies serving in a law enforcement capacity are the only persons authorized to display or possess BSO law enforcement badges. E. Detention deputies are the only persons authorized to display or possess BSO detention badges. F. Cross-certified deputies currently assigned within the Department of Detention and Community Control will only wear the BSO detention badge while on duty or in uniform. G. Fire-Rescue employees serving in a certified position with the Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency services are the only persons authorized to display Fire Rescue Badges. H. Deputies and fire-rescue personnel will carry their badge and ID Cards on or about their person at all times while within their jurisdiction, except at their residence or under circumstances deemed reasonably impractical. Personnel will provide their name and show their BSO Identification Card to any person requesting that information, except if to do so would jeopardize the performance of their duties. 3.22.2 Vendor ID Card Issuance: A. Commanders will send all requests for a BSO Vendor ID Card to the Human Resources Director. B. Requests will include the following information: 1. Person's name 2. Date of birth 3. Sex and race 4. Social Security number 5. Written justification outlining the reasons for issuing the Vendor ID Card 6. Home address and Driver License number or a copy of the Driver License C. Human Resources will ensure a background investigation is completed on the named person when the Vendor ID Card request is received. D. If the Sheriff approves the issuing of the Vendor ID Card, the following procedure will apply: 1. Commanders requesting a Vendor ID Card will contact the vendor and inform the vendor of the approval. 2. Vendors are responsible for contacting Human Resources and making arrangements to have their Vendor ID Cards prepared. It is the requesting commander's responsibility to obtain all Vendor ID Cards from discontinued contracted vendor services and/or terminated service employees. 3.22.3 Employee Replacement ID Card Issuance: A. Employees are only authorized to have one BSO ID Card. B. If an ID Card is lost or stolen, procedures outlined in the Sheriff’s Policy Manual for damage/loss of BSO property will be followed. C. Old ID Cards must be returned to Human Resources prior to the issuance of a replacement ID Card, unless the old ID Card was lost or stolen. D. Employees requiring a replacement ID Card will send a written request to Human Resources. All requests will include the following information and documentation: 1. Employee's name and CCN 2. Reason the employee is requesting a replacement ID Card 3. A copy of the completed Police/Event Report or case card (for lost or stolen ID Cards only). E. When employees have completed all needed processing, their ID Card will be reissued by Human Resources. F. Human Resources will notify the employee via email that the ID card is available for pick up in Human Resources.
