ORDER OF THE NATIONAL ARTISTS CONTEMPORARY ARTS IN THE PHILIPPINE REGIONS WHAT DID WE DO LAST TIME? IMAGINE A HYPOTHETICAL SITUATION... You are assigned to be the director of International Commission for Arts & Culture. You must create a group of artists you find to have the most influential and most enduring works. Who will you choose? IMAGINE A HYPOTHETICAL SITUATION... You must choose a total of four artists and present your answers in front. You will be given five minutes to think. Who are your artists? Why did you pick them? What are their greatest contributions? 2ND ACTIVITY: OUR NATIONAL ARTISTS 1. YOUR CLASS WILL BE DIVIDED INTO FOUR GROUPS 2. EACH GROUP WILL BE GIVEN SETS OF MEDIUMS OF ARTS TO REPORT ON FOR THEIR RESPECTIVE NATIONAL ARTISTS 3. THERE WILL BE A SET “PROGRAM” FOR EACH REPORTING GROUP, DISPLAYED ON THE NEXT SLIDE. 4. YOU ARE AUTHORIZED TO USE ANY KINDS OF VISUAL AIDS AND MATERIALS TO SUPPORT YOUR REPORTING. Category 1: Visual Arts and Fashion Design Category 2: Historical Lit. and Literature Category 3: Dance and Music Category 4: Film, Architecture, and Theater ROUTINE FLOW FOR EVERY GROUP: EACH GROUP MUST HAVE AN OPENING ACTIVITY. ENERGIZER/MOTIVATION ACTIVITY. EACH GROUP MUST HAVE AN “ICE-BREAKER” ACTIVITY TO ENSURE RETENTION AND PARTICIPATION IN THE MIDDLE OF THE REPORTING. EACH GROUP MUST HAVE A POST-ASSESSMENT. ACTIVITY/TEST. PICTURES/MEDIA OF THE WORKS OF THE NATIONAL ARTIST MUST BE SHOWN. HOW THESE REQUIREMENTS AND THE FLOW ARE ACHIEVED IS UP TO THE INDIVIDUAL DISCRETION OF THE GROUP. ORDER OF THE NATIONAL ARTISTS CONTEMPORARY ARTS IN THE PHILIPPINE REGIONS TOPIC OUTLINE ORDER OF THE NATIONAL ARTISTS THE NATIONAL ARTISTS ORDER OF THE NATIONAL ARTISTS Established under Proclamation No. 1 1001, s. 1972, the highest national recognition as a Filipino artist. Both the National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) and Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) administers the award. The president of the Philippines grants this award to a person recommended by both institutions every three (3) years. OBJECTIVES OF THE ORDER OF NATIONAL ARTISTS OBJECTIVES Order of The National Artists aim to recognize: 1. Filipino artists who have made significant contributions to the cultural heritage of the country. 2. Filipino artistic accomplishments at its highest level and to promote creative expression as significant to the development of a national cultural identity. 3. Filipino artists who have dedicated their lives to their works to forge new paths and directions for future generations of Filipino artists. CRITERIA FOR SELECTION CRITERIA Order of The National Artists will be given to artists who meet the following criteria: Living artists who are natural-born Filipino citizens at the time of nomination, as well as those who died after the establishment of the award in 1972 but were Filipino citizens at their time of death. Filipinos who have lost and re-acquired Filipino citizenship, through dual citizenship status for at least the minimum period of five years shall be eligible for nomination. CRITERIA Order of The National Artists will be given to artists who meet the following criteria: Artists who through the content and form of their works have contributed in building a sense of Filipino nationhood. Artists who have pioneered in a mode of creative expression or style, thus, earning distinction and making an impact on succeeding generations of artists. Artists who have created a substantial and significant body of works and/or consistently displayed excellence in the practice of their art forms thus enriching artistic expression or style. CRITERIA Order of The National Artists will be given to artists who meet the following criteria: Artists who enjoy broad acceptance through: Prestigious national/international recognition, such as the Gawad CCP Para Sa Sining, CCP Thirteen Artists Award, and NCCA Alab ng Haraya. Critical acclaim and reviews of their works. Respect and esteem from peers. HONORS AND PRIVILEGES HONORS AND PRIVILEGES The rank and title of National Artist, as proclaimed by the president of the Philippines. The National Artist gold-plated medallion minted by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and citation, HONORS AND PRIVILEGES Lifetime emolument and material and physical benefits comparable in value to those received by the highest officers of the land such as: Minimum cash award of PhP 200,000 net of taxes for living awardees and a minimum cash award of 150,000PhP pesos for posthumous awardees. Payable to legal heir/s. Minimum lifetime monthly stipend of PhP 30,000 A place of honor, in line with protocular precedence, in state functions, national commemoration ceremonies, and all other cultural presentations.
