Order of National Artists
- Established in 1972 by Proclamation No. 11001, it is the highest national recognition for Filipino artists.
- Both the National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) and Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) administer the award.
- The President of the Philippines grants this award every three years, based on recommendations from the two institutions.
Objectives

Criteria for Selection

- Filipinos who have lost and regained citizenship, holding dual citizenship for at least five years, can be nominated.

- Artists who have pioneered unique creative styles, influencing future generations.
- Artists with a notable body of work or consistent excellence in their art form, enriching artistic expression.
- Artists recognized for excellence:
- National recognition (like Gawad CCP Para Sa Sining, CCP Thirteen Artists Award, NCCA Alab ng Haraya).
- Critical acclaim.
- Peer recognition and respect.
Honors and Privileges
- The title of National Artist is bestowed by the President of the Philippines.
- Each National Artist receives a gold-plated medallion minted by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and a citation.
- Lifetime emolument and benefits comparable to those received by high-ranking government officials:
- Minimum cash award of PhP 200,000 for living awardees and PhP 150,000 for posthumous awardees (net of taxes). Payable to legal heirs.
