Summary
This document presents an overview of plant and animal tissues. It explains the different types of tissues found in plants and animals, categorized as meristematic and permanent tissues. In addition, it describes basic animal tissues like epithelial and connective tissues, focusing on the functions and characteristics of each.

AGUSAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL PLANT TISSUE GENERAL BIOLOGY I Module 2 Meristematic tissue-contains actively dividing cell, give rise to cell that perform specific function Plant and Animal Tissue -Once cell develop to perform specific function, it will lose its Learning Objectives ability to perform “Cellular differentiation” At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to: 1. Classify different cell types (of plant/animal tissues) and specify Permanent Tissue- composed of single cell, similar in structure and the functions of each Function Simple Permanent Tissue: Key Concepts Epidermal Tissue- single layer of cell that covers plants leaves, Tissues are made up of a group of similar cells that are adapted for flowers, roots and stem, plays protective role in plants a particular function. Organs are then formed by the functional -Stomata- composed of 2 guard cells grouping together of multiple tissues. Parenchyma Tissue- forms the majority of the stem and roots, common type of ground tissue, responsible for storage of nutrients Collenchyma Tissue- found in shoots and leaves, thin-walled but corners of cell wall are thickened with cellulose, tightly packed and have fewer inter cellular spaces Sclerenchyma Tissue- Supporting tissue, making plants hard and stiff 2 Parts: Plants are typically made up Sclerenchyma fibers- long and narrow and have thick of roots, stems and leaves. lignified cell wall, provide mechanical strength to plants and Plant tissues can be broadly allow conduction of water categorized into dividing, meristematic tissue or non- dividing, permanent tissue. Permanent tissue is made up of simple and complex tissues (Figure 2). PRINCESS WEENA EVE M. Complex Permanent Tissue: Types: Phloem vessels- made up of sieve tubes Cuboidal- for secretion, cube like and companion cells -pancreas & salivary glands Sieve tube- transports organic food Simple columnar- brick-shaped cells, for and other material across the secretion and active absorption plant. -intestines Companion cells- take part in Simple squamous- plate-like cells, for exchange of material through loading and unloading sugar into diffusion the sieve element. -air sacs of the lungs Xylem vessels- made up of tracheid and Stratified squamous- vessel’s multilayered and Tracheid- a type of water conducting cell in the xylem which regenerates quickly, for lacks perforations in the cell wall. protection Vessels- conducts water and mineral -esophagus Pseudo-stratified columnar- single layer may look like stack, lined with cilia. -respiratory tract PRINCESS WEENA EVE M. ASTILLA-PADIOS GENERAL BIOLOGY I AGUSAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Smooth- not striated, involuntary movements CONNECTIVE TISSUE NERVOUS TISSUE -Tissue that supports, -composed of nerve cells protects, and gives called neurons and glial cells structure to other that function as support cells tissues and organs in the body Types: Neurons- connects to other Types: neurons to send signals Blood- made up of Dendrites- receives impulses plasma from other neurons Loose Connective Tissue- Axon- to carry electrical composed of collagenous fibers like impulses that are the means of communication tendons & ligaments. Ex. Adipose Glial cells- provide support and protection to the neurons tissue store fats, function to insulate body and store energy Ligaments- connects bone to bone Tendons- connects muscle to bones Cartilage- hard and elastic can withstand pressure Bone- mineralized connective tissue, made by osteoblast MUSCLE TISSUE -composed of long cell called muscle fibers allows body to move voluntary and involuntary Types: Skeletal- striated, voluntary movements Cardiac- striated with intercalated disk for synchronized heart contraction; involuntary PRINCESS WEENA EVE M.
