POLICY It shall be the policy of the Hoffman Estates Fire Department to follow this guideline: however, it may be altered to achieve a more appropriate response based on information received from NWCD or to achieve a faster response based on location and/or status of fire department apparatus and personnel. NWCD will attempt to gather the following information at the time of the original call for assistance: 1. If anyone needs medical assistance. 2. Determine how many people need assistance. 3. Establish what floor the elevator is stuck on. 4. If there are multiple elevators in the building, which elevator is involved in the incident. PROCEDURE A. For elevator emergencies the district or closest engine will respond. B. If NWCD determines that someone needs medical assistance, the call will be re-classified as an Ambulance Request Code 1 (AMB). DEFINITIONS An Elevator emergency is defined as a report of a person stuck in an elevator, a 9-1-1 or 7-digit open line or an automated recording originating from an elevator with no voice contact.
