How can a driver be effective in watching for terrorist related 2 activity? Drivers should: > l. Be aware of what is going on around them at all times. In many cases, terrorists’ activities will on the surface look normal, but will set off a driver's “professional warning lights” because those activities will not look right when compared to legitimate activities at that particular time or location. Learn the kinds of activities that terrorists use in planning and carrying out their attacks (e.g., casing a location, rehearsing, etc.) from recognized sources. Know in advance to whom and how to report suspicious activities in sufficient detail so that law enforcement or their own company's security professionals can take action. Know what to do to best protect themselves, then the truck and cargo. ©. What should a driver do if the driver sees something that looks like a terrorist activity? A. If there is clearly an attack underway or an attack profile that is playing out, the driver should: l. Not hesitate to take immediate action to protect themselves, then the truck and cargo, and locate a secure area to call 911. 2. Know and follow the company’s security procedures, especially those related to avoiding or facing a direct attack. 3. Report the terrorist activity, and the actions the driver took, to the company dispatcher, or as company policy dictates. If the driver is approached by someone who ts asking questions about their cargo, destination, route, etc., the driver should be cautious and non-responsive unless the asking party is an authorized person such as law enforce- ment or unless instructed by the driver's company do so. Be alert for vehicles following the driver for an extended time and report it to their dispatcher and/or law enforcement. 81
