ANIMAL BITES INCIDENT COMMANDER (IC) If animal owner is known, advise the owner that it is their responsibility to keep animal locked up until the Miami Dade County Health Department contacts them. Should the animal die before being contacted, the owner will immediately call the Miami Dade County Health Department and advise them of the animals death. Encourage the victim to go to the hospital or see a doctor. The hospitals and doctors will report the animal bite to the Miami Dade County Health Department. If the victim decides not to go to a hospital or doctor, advise the victim that it is their responsibility to report the bite to the Miami Dade County Health Department. NOTE: When reporting, an animal bite to the Miami Dade County Health Department, the following information is needed: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Name and address of victim Bite location on the body Address where bite occurred Animal owner's name, address or phone number Address where animal will be locked up If the animal owner is not known and/or the animal is running free and poses a potential risk to other persons, request the Fire Central Information Office (FCIO) to contact the Miami Dade County Animal Control. Animal Control will only respond if a Miami Fire-Rescue unit remains on the scene and can advise of the animal's location. NOTE: The Humane Society only responds to sick or distressed animals.
