HOFFMAN ESTATES FIRE DEPARTMENT STANDARD OPERATING GUIDELINES SOG Category & Identification Number: EFFECTIVE DATE: OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES – 017 January 1, 2022 NIMS COMPLIANT SOG Title: Notification of Public Works Revision: 2 APPROVED BY: NUMBER OF PAGES: Re-evaluation Date: Alan Wax January 1, 2024 Fire Chief 2 PURPOSE In an effort to better account for resources, to ensure that water system pressures remain consistent and to establish a more efficient method of notifying Public Works when Fire Department personnel utilize fire hydrants during emergency and non emergency use, the following operational guideline has been established. DEFINITIONS POLICY Whenever department personnel flow water for emergency or non-emergency purposes, the following guideline will be utilized: Emergency Use Whenever the Fire Department uses Village fire hydrants during firefighting extinguishment operations, such as structure or vehicle fires, the Company Officer is expected to complete the Public Works Notification Form, with the estimated number of gallons used during extinguishment. This estimate will be recorded on the Public Works Notification Form and will be sent via e-mail to the Shift Commander, with a copy to the Village Water Superintendent and the Deputy Chief of Operations. This report should be completed when the Company Officer is completing post fire reports. Non-Emergency Use Prior to hydrant flow testing, training evolutions or any other times more than 100 gallons of hydrant water is used, the Company Officer will contact the Village Water Superintendent to inform them of the department’s intent to flow water. At the conclusion of the use, the Company Officer is expected to complete the Public Works Notification Form, with the estimated number of gallons used.
