The Hoffman Estates Fire Department has established an operational guideline for notifying Public Works when utilizing fire hydrants during emergency and non-emergency use.

Definitions and Purpose

The purpose of this guideline is to account for resources, maintain consistent water system pressures, and establish an efficient method of notification.

Policy for Emergency Use

During firefighting operations, the Company Officer must complete the Public Works Notification Form with the estimated number of gallons used.
The form should be sent via email to the Shift Commander, Village Water Superintendent, and Deputy Chief of Operations when completing post-fire reports.

Policy for Non-Emergency Use

Prior to hydrant flow testing, training, or using over 100 gallons of hydrant water, the Company Officer must inform the Village Water Superintendent.
After use, the Company Officer must complete the Public Works Notification Form with the estimated number of gallons used.
The form should be sent via email to the Shift Commander, Village Water Superintendent, and Deputy Chief of Operations.
