Are there any serious risk factors to be aware of before the project even starts? Fall 2024 PJMT 1100 The Principles of Project Management 19 Project Scope Management Involves the project scope, that is, the work that is included within the project Concerned with what is and is not included in the project The scope must include all work necessary to make the project successful, yet it must limit extras that are not required to meet the project’s objectives Fall 2024 PJMT 1100 The Principles of Project Management 20 Project Schedule Management This is usually the most time consuming of the knowledge areas During planning, the project manager must divide the project into tasks and create both a schedule (start and finish dates for each task) and budget for each task Tasks are defined, time estimates are completed, and a schedule is completed Where the project team conducts activities to make sure the project is completed when it's supposed to be Fall 2024 PJMT 1100 The Principles of Project Management 21 Project Cost Management Project cost management estimates and controls the cost of the project through inception to completion The project budget is usually one of the most sensitive parts of a project The budget must be established through rigorous estimating techniques and monitored Costs for human resources, materials, equipment, facilities, and project related services are included Once a budget is created, the project manager will be responsible for managing and controlling the project’s budget Fall 2024 PJMT 1100 The Principles of Project Management 22 Project Quality Management Ensures the customer is satisfied with the quality of the product or service delivered at the project's completion You first have to define quality and what does the customer expect, then you have to test and control quality during the project The quality level should be established during project planning and specified within the project management plan When issues arise regarding product specifications, there is a plan to deal with it Fall 2024 PJMT 1100 The Principles of Project Management 23 Project Resource Management Deals with identifying, acquiring, and managing the people necessary to accomplish the project You'll identify who is needed, train the team, manage their performance, and resolve resource issues The project team is usually one of the most important factors in the success of a project If you have a good team, you will have a successful project Fall 2024 PJMT 1100 The Principles of Project Management 24 Project Communications Management Communication is not just talking Concerned with all aspects of communication, including communications from meetings, information going to stakeholders, and the resolution of communication issues Essential to develop a communications plan to keep all stakeholders informed throughout the project and communicate early and often when unexpected issues occur Project managers will develop formal plans up-front, to determine what communication needs to go out and when and to whom it should be distributed Fall 2024 PJMT 1100 The Principles of Project Management 25 Fall 2024 PJMT 1100 The Principles of Project Management 26 Project Risk Management Risks are very seldom identified up front and analyzed within the project management plan, but plans need to be developed to mitigate any risks that may arise during the project In the project risk management knowledge area, you'll identify, analyze, and plan how to manage risks Fall 2024 PJMT 1100 The Principles of Project Management 27 Project Procurement Management Identifies the outside procurement needs of the project and parameters under which the contractors will be procured In project procurement management, the project manager often has to purchase or acquire products to support the project’s objectives You’ll often use suppliers, vendors, contractors, service groups, and internal procurement departments to plan and purchase needed resources Fall 2024 PJMT 1100 The Principles of Project Management 28 Project Stakeholder Management Managing anyone who might be involved, interested, or have influence over a project Deciding up-front how much each stakeholder will participate, what communication they need and when, and their level of interest in the project helps the project manager to develop a plan to manage the different stakeholders over the course of the project Fall 2024 PJMT 1100 The Principles of Project Management 29 Summary ❑ There are ten knowledge areas of project management ❑ The knowledge areas are not mutually exclusive and many areas actually overlap ❑ These are the major areas of knowledge that tie into the various processes and deliverables required for a successful project Fall 2024 PJMT 1100 The Principles of Project Management 30 You’ll be able to take a closer look of each Project Management Knowledge Area!
