Therefore, we study drug information Definitions “Knowledge of facts through “A chemical applied to reading, studying and physiological system Drug Information practical experience”. that affects its function in a specific way Information may be either (mechanism)” objective info (gathered by scientific observations) or subjective info (gathered by practical experience). Therefore, Drug information describes the activities undertaken by pharmacists in providing information to optimize drug use. The Pharmacist is the responsible person who can provide accurate, unbiased and well-referenced information in response to patients’ drug issues. In other words, provision of drug info is one of the most fundamental responsibilities of pharmacist. Definitions Drug Informatics “Is the use of technology as a tool in effectively organizing, analyzing, and managing medication use on patients”. For example, computer technology and artificial intelligence has changed positively the ability to store and access information. Anyone can find information on nearly every disease and treatment. A pharmacist can communicate with health care professionals or their patients or can obtain information easily. Drawbacks: 1- Need to validate the information obtained (due to many information available). 2- Misinformation may result in harmful behavior or medication error. Definitions Drug Information Center (DIC) DIC is an official center in a health care setting with a trained specialist (Pharmacist) and library of drug information sources. The development of drug information centers and drug information specialist was the beginning of Clinical Pharmacy Practice (Pharmacist offering consultation on medication therapy). The growing number and complexity of drugs make process of selecting the most suitable drugs for individual patients by physicians increasingly complex.
